Surveying Your Movie Preferences: DVD Collection or Celebrity Meeting?

When faced with the choice of having a DVD collection containing every Hollywood release from the past 15 years or spending two hours meeting your favorite Hollywood celebrity, which option would you choose? For someone like myself, who doesn’t frequently watch movies, this decision might seem less appealing.

Opting for the DVD Collection

As a fan of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, I find the prospect of owning a 15-year DVD collection overly stressful and time-consuming. Imagine filling your house with DVD covers that might never be opened. The process of listing and selling the DVDs would also involve a lot of effort for very little financial gain. Selling the movies en masse might be a better option, but it would still require describing and packaging many inferior films. In the end, the hassle seems far outweigh the reward.

Avoiding the Decision

Unfortunately, you may not always have the luxury of choosing. If you’re like me, who doesn’t have a DVD player, or who prefers the convenience of streaming, then the existence of a DVD collection feels like a significant waste of space. Plus, organizing such a collection would be a monumental task, and finding a specific movie would require an incredible amount of time.

Preference for Financial Gain

From a purely financial standpoint, I would opt for the one million dollars. While a couple of hours with a celebrity might be enjoyable, it also seems like a temporary win. In contrast, a million dollars can provide financial flexibility and security for much longer. Moreover, the fame and excitement of the meeting might fade quickly, while the financial benefits endure.

Long-term Enjoyment vs. Short-term Immediacy

On the other hand, the DVD collection offers the potential for long-term enjoyment. Spending a lifetime watching and rewatching these movies can offer comfort, entertainment, and a sense of history. It’s like storing a piece of the past in tangible form. Even if you don’t watch them often, knowing they’re there could be comforting.

Conclusion

Ultimately, deciding between a DVD collection or a meeting with a celebrity comes down to personal values and priorities. For someone who values financial stability and long-term satisfaction, the DVD collection might seem like a temporary win, while a meeting with a celebrity can be seen as a short-term thrill. As for me, I would probably choose the cash. After all, you can always buy a DVD collection later with that million dollars.
