Will You Miss Hollywood?

As I approach a semi-retirement over the next five years, my work obligations will be met through occasional Zoom calls and a few in-person meetings and holiday parties. This transition marks the end of a career that has been both challenging and fulfilling.

The Hollywood Experience

Working in Hollywood is an incredible experience, a state of mind that represents the pinnacle of creative fulfillment for many in the entertainment industry. The doors to creativity are always open, providing opportunities for a significant portion of the workforce. However, the industry is perpetually seeking fresh talent, and one can only remain relevant for so long.

In this environment, it's inevitable that one's skills and relevance will eventually wear thin. There's a certain point in any career where one starts to feel that they are no longer making significant contributions, and the machinery of creative output begins to show its age. Despite this, the allure of constantly being at the forefront of new trends and ideas is undeniably captivating.

The Future of Hollywood

Yet, as both my sons have established their own careers, I no longer need to be tied to Hollywood for financial reasons. This liberation from the industry is both a relief and a bittersweet transition. Hollywood, for many, is not just a job but a way of life, a place where dreams are lived and sustenance is earned. So, while the industry will always change and evolve, its essence remains.

It is true that Hollywood, as a physical place, may continue to see changes. Already, production has decentralized, with studios and production houses deviating from the traditional centralized model. Nevertheless, the core of Hollywood as a hub for high-quality content creation, for many platforms, will persist. The charm and mystique of the industry will not fade away, even as the way content is created and delivered continues to evolve.

The Legacy and the State of Mind

Even as I step back from the day-to-day grind of Hollywood, the legacy and spirit of the industry will continue to inspire and influence me. My collection of classic films, including twenty Jean Harlow movies, and a still-functioning 3D flatscreen television serve as a reminder of the enduring allure of Hollywood. For fans and professionals alike, Hollywood isn’t just a place but a symbol of creativity, innovation, and cinematic legacy.

Hollywood is more than just production spaces and sets. It's a state of mind, a way of thinking and dreaming. Having worked in this industry for so many years, I will carry its essence with me, whether through continued fascination with classic films, the excitement of emerging trends, or the nostalgic memories of a bygone era. Hollywood will remain a part of me, regardless of how my career transitions.

So, while my physical involvement in Hollywood may be diminishing, its impact on my life and career will remain an enduring part of my journey. As the industry evolves, so will its relevance and influence, continuing to captivate and inspire each new generation.
