Will Trump Supporters Flee the Country Post-Bidens Election?
Will Trump Supporters Flee the Country Post-Biden's Election?
The aftermath of an electoral victory often brings out mixed reactions. In the context of the upcoming US presidential election, some of Donald Trump's loyal supporters are considering leaving the country if Joe Biden wins. This sentiment is fueled by frustration and a sense of being neglected, leading to proposals like buying an independent island. However, such views are not in line with what it means to be a true patriot.
Emigration Criteria and Options for Trump Supporters
Many Trump supporters may find it difficult to emigrate to first-world countries. The common excuse is Mexico, but this option is also limited. Moving to Mexico or another country would require meeting strict criteria and essentially abandoning ties to the United States, which is both challenging and costly.
Some suggestions are as absurd as using a planeboat and donkeys, but these are more humorous than practical. Most people, regardless of political affiliation, prefer to stay and fight for their beliefs within the legal framework. They believe that real patriots stay and legally advocate for change rather than react like spoiled children.
Historical Context and Personal Experiences
Sharing personal experiences can provide a broader perspective. My husband, for example, was considering immigrating to New Zealand during the Bush era due to better economic conditions. However, various factors such as career stability, financial impacts on Social Security, and family responsibilities kept us in the country. Similarly, during the Trump tenure, he would have found it incredibly distressing and unlikely to leave.
It's important to distinguish between genuine concerns and hyperbolic reactions. When Bush 1 became President, my husband was motivated to explore other options, but it didn’t happen. Patriotism is about working within the system and making change, not seeking escape.
Considering the Future: Medical and Social Changes
Medicare for all, including undocumented immigrants, could be a significant factor in emigration. While it’s a popular policy among Democrats, the idea of such a large and sudden change could indeed prompt people to reconsider their future in the United States.
It’s natural for individuals to consider alternatives if they feel their future is threatened or if they are unsatisfied with the current political climate. However, it’s essential to weigh the pros and cons of leaving, including the emotional and financial impacts of uprooting oneself and their families. The majority of people might stay, just as I did when Trump was elected. I plan to stay and believe most others will follow suit:
“If Biden wins, I expect they will leave by boat, plane, or foot. But only if they want to leave. And as I said when Trump was elected, I would go to Canada, but I am still here, and I imagine most of them will be too.”
In conclusion, while the political climate can have a significant impact on individuals, true patriots understand the importance of staying and fighting for their country within the bounds of the law. Staying is a sign of commitment and belief in a better future, rather than immediate flight.
