Why I Love the Villain in 'The Boys'—The Spectacularly Evil Homelander

Excellent Question and Thank You for Your Inquiry

This is a series I became obsessed with. The The Boys series revolves around some of the most fascinating characters. While many of the characters are from a group with superpowers, the focus is on a group of ordinary men dealing with a superhero of questionable morals. The Homelander is the central villain, a man with the potential to save the world but instead, uses his powers for his twisted and lowly goals.

AUTHENTIC TERROR

Elizabeth Taylor’s kid, Meg Ryan’s son, or a knock-off of the Justice League with a fascinating premise: "What if a superhero did you wrong?" The series shines a light on the dark realities of such a scenario. The characters who are part of this series have their own superpowers, but the four men at the forefront, including Homelander, do not. This series is a thrilling exploration of moral ambiguity and corruption.

HOMELANDER'S HOLOCURE

Homelander looks awesome, much like Superman, but he is anything but. He is a manipulative and cruel individual. Because of his powers, he has the potential to save mankind, but he uses them to achieve petty and insignificant goals. The show’s journey from the beginning to the present is a stark contrast of Homelander's behavior, from a poorly leading leader to an uncontrollable menace.

AN INSTANT CARNAGE

Let’s take a closer look at the airplane scene in the first season. Homelander emerges on the plane with Queen Maeve in hand; he should have the ability to see through everyone on the plane, yet somehow, he fails to notice the number of hijackers. As soon as they board the plane and dispose of a few hijackers, the passengers clap. Homelander hastily accepts the praise and assures everyone of a job well done. Moments later, he is destroying the plane to eliminate the last hijacker. The mission is, of course, a failure, and Homelander is ready to abandon the passengers. He is unwilling to lift the plane or try another option.

When Queen Maeve offers to save two young passengers, Homelander refuses, as they would reveal how he and Maeve left the rest of the passengers to die. With such a lack of rescuing skills, he couldn't prevent four hijackers from taking over a flight. However, he had the foresight to spin the disaster into a positive public relations story. This explains why anyone would be wary of Homelander.

THE TERROR OF HOMELANDER'S REGIME

Homelander has the powers of Superman, including flight, laser eyes, and superstrength. He has the terrifying ability to kill anyone at his whim, including his subordinates. Imagine a more terrifying workplace, where an unhinged Superman can hear your heart rate and see through your body. Homelander has murdered several people because they did not fit his narrative. Most people die by him because he does not believe their story.
