Why I Fell in Love with Doctor Who

It has been a while, but I can still remember the day and the Doctor Who episode that initially captured my attention.

Becoming a Doctor Who Fan

My introduction to Doctor Who happened back in 1963 on November 23rd, when I was just 7 years old. Growing up in an era with only two television channels, everything that followed Grandstand on Saturday evenings inevitably led us to Doctor Who. Even though it was quite different from what we see today, that initial episode, An Unearthly Child, left a lasting impression. I still remember watching it and feeling captivated by the story and the mysterious alien figure.

A Boredom Adventure

Fast forward to a few decades later, boredom had set in once again. As a casual viewer, I found myself with nothing to watch. In those moments of idle curiosity, the taste of popular TV shows grew on me. I started with shows like Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, which held my attention for a good while. I was also drawn to the intense storyline and thrilling action of Cowboy Beebop. After finishing these series, I once again drifted into a familiar state of leisure and sought out the next big crowd-pleaser.

While browsing through my YouTube notifications, I stumbled upon a video featuring Neil Patrick Harris in the role of the Toymaker. His acting in How I Met Your Mother was one of my favorites, and I noticed David Tennant from Jessica Jones as the Purple Man. These familiar faces sparked interest in me, and I decided to give Doctor Who a chance.

A Journey Through Time

Since legal streaming options for Doctor Who weren't readily available, I opted to start from the year 2005. After watching the first episode, I found it to be merely adequate, rather than outstanding. However, the 9th Doctor's speech in the second episode piqued my interest, and I decided to continue exploring. The show's subsequent episodes didn't disappoint and steadily grew on me.

Beyond the 10th Doctor’s tenure, I have been watching sporadically, catching up on the latest specials and season releases on Disney . It’s been a remarkable journey, and I can hardly wait to see what the Doctor Who ensemble has in store for us next.

The Psychology of Choosing Entertainment

It’s fascinating how a moment of boredom can lead to a lasting change. Choosing to watch a show simply because it captured my attention, driven by the thrill of new characters and familiar faces, led me to discover a whole new world. Similarly, for many, Doctor Who has become a cherished journey, a way to escape reality and delve into a realm of adventure, wonder, and sometimes, just a bit of nostalgia.

In summary, my journey into Doctor Who was driven primarily by boredom and a casual search for the next popular TV Shows. What began as a fleeting interest quickly transformed into a cherished part of my life, offering endless hours of entertainment and a continuous feeling of wonder.
