Why Are Cops Allowed to Carry Firearms?

Everywhere you go, police officers are armed. Even in places like Britain, there is always an armed officer nearby. This is because bad guys carry firearms, and even in places where civilians are not allowed to own them, criminals often have them. Thank God for the Second Amendment in the United States where police are often minutes away and minutes can be very long when you're threatened and defenseless.

The Role of Firearm Possession in Law Enforcement

Because nukes and large firearms are difficult to transport, and because criminals don't carry powder-puffs (or any harmless items), the possession of firearms by law enforcement is necessary. Criminals primarily carry weapons to defend themselves against other criminals. As most reasonable people understand, criminals do not obey laws. Therefore, even if it is illegal for the criminal to own a weapon such as a gun or knife, they will often do so anyway.

Real-Life Examples of Police Training and Handcuffing Techniques

Not all police officers are big and strong. I recall a case where a female police officer was able to cuff a large, violent man by ordering him to sit down and hold his hands behind his back. The suspect had previously fought with a strong male police officer. He complied with her request and said, 'She's not gonna fight me if I fight her, she’ll kill me.' This shows the crucial ability of police officers to use force when necessary to ensure compliance and protect civilians.

Combating Criminal Behavior with Law Enforcement Authority

The ability of the police to use deadly force to enforce the law is essential in ensuring that criminals comply with the rules. Criminals, by their very definition, do not obey the law and respect only force. This is the same reason why countries maintain military forces to defend against aggressive neighbors. In the United States, we do things differently and we are not going to change.

Global Perceptions of Guns in Law Enforcement

I imagine that in other nations, the idea of police officers carrying firearms is considered improper. However, in the United States, we believe that evil must be stopped by armed men and women. Criminals, by definition, do not obey the law. They respect force and nothing else. This is the very short answer to the question of why police need to carry firearms.

Final Thoughts

Are you so easily triggered by the sight of a uniformed police officer with a gun on their hip? If so, you may need to reassess your perception and understanding of law enforcement. Being triggered by the sight of a well-trained police officer upholding the law is unfounded and unreasonable. It is part of what keeps us safe.
