Navigating the Complexities of Hindutva and Islamism: Which is Worse?

Comparing Hindutva and Islamism is a profoundly complex and often laden with propaganda. Propagandists on either side may be trying to either vilify Hindutva as venomous as Islamism or dilute the gravity of Islamism. However, an objective and verifiable analysis reveals that the source and nature of their respective fundamentalisms are distinct and profoundly rooted in their historical contexts and sacred texts.

The Nature of Hindutva and Islamism

Hindutva, grounded in the revivalist ideology of the Hindu resurgence, has historically focused on reinforcing traditional Indian culture and values. Hindutva aims to define India as a Hindu-majority nation and to integrate religious beliefs with the state's governance. While Hindutva can sometimes be seen as a political force, it has not historically had the same historical pattern of violent conquest and divisiveness that characterizes some forms of Islamism.

Islamism, on the other hand, has a complex and often violent historical legacy. It often associates itself with political and militant movements that aim to establish an Islamic state, often by violent means. The Qu'ran and Hadith, the central scriptures of Islam, contain directives that have been interpreted by various schools of thought to justify actions against non-believers and certain categories of Muslims, particularly those deemed to have awakened senses of humanism that challenge the status quo.

Religious Fundamentalism

Religious fundamentalism in general is deeply concerning. Behind it lies a confluence of complex and often dark motivations: greed, desire for power, the need to dominate, and the persistent allure of sadism and base desires, all cloaked in the guise of piety and faith. These fundamentalists are often a facade, more interested in manipulating the faithful than in genuinely serving the cause of their religion. They exploit the vulnerabilities of people who lack the ability to think critically and question authority. They are, at their core, duplicitous and instrumental in their approach.

The strength of such movements lies in the gullible followers who lack the capacity for independent thought and truth. These followers often lack common sense and, in many ways, behave like slaves, blindly following orders justified in the name of their religion. It is crucial to recognize the manipulation and to provide modern education to these individuals to help them think critically and question their beliefs.

Towards a Just Society

The world is in dire need of a systemic change, one that can help us navigate the complex landscapes of religious fundamentalism. While debates around hindutva and islamism will continue, it is imperative that we focus on education and critical thinking as the primary tools against these movements.

Modern education is the first step towards making informed decisions and understanding the true nature of these ideologies. When people are educated, they are better equipped to see through the lies and manipulations of fundamentalists. By exposing these frauds to the public eye, we can expose their true nature and work towards a society where such divisive ideologies are marginalized.

From a religious perspective, it is essential to study and understand the true messages of one's faith. Buddhism, for instance, teaches the virtue of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, meaning 'the world is a family'. This philosophy emphasizes unity and diversity, and the belief that there are many ways to reach the truth and God, without discrimination based on religion.

Awareness and education are the keys to escaping the darkness of religious fundamentalism. It is up to each individual to seek enlightenment through knowledge and independent thinking, but as a society, we must work collectively to foster an environment conducive to critical thinking and dialogue.

God willing, with the right approach and the right education, we can create a world that is free from the tyranny of religious fundamentalism, where every individual has the freedom to explore their faith without fear or persecution.
