Which Streaming Service Reigns Supreme: Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime, or Apple TV
Choosing the best streaming service can be a daunting task, as each platform offers unique advantages and a variety of content to cater to different tastes. In this article, we will explore the merits of Netflix, Disney Plus, Amazon Prime, and Apple TV, providing insights based on user reviews, personal experience, and industry analysis.
Personal Preferences and Observations
Based on my tastes, Hulu is the best for network TV, while Netflix is unparalleled when it comes to original content. I rarely rely on my Amazon Prime and Disney accounts. Disney offers a treasure trove of Marvel content, but most of it is comprised of movies that I have already watched and prefer TV shows. WandaVision may serve as a good reason to revisit the service when it finally drops.
Netflix: The Original King
Until a few months ago, I would have unequivocally chosen Netflix. While their recent content is 'missing' more than 'hitting' in terms of quality, they still retain most of my favorite shows. However, in the past few months, I have found myself barely using Netflix, opting instead for more engaging and user-friendly services.
Currently, my preference leans towards Amazon Prime Video. Despite its clunky user interface, it provides a wide array of binge-worthy TV shows to enjoy during the ongoing lockdown. Additionally, Amazon Prime offers a distinct advantage through its shopping experience with next-day delivery, which is unmatched by other services. I recently subscribed to StarzPlay for £99 per month for three months, and was delighted to watch Pennyworth series.
Amazon Prime: A Comprehensive Service
Amazon Prime isn’t just a streaming service; it comes with a range of benefits, including free/next-day delivery. For as little as £7.99 per month, you can access a wealth of shows and movies, with over 1 million songs, audiobooks, and music videos. I particularly enjoy shows like Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and Jack Ryan. However, these benefits do not outweigh Netflix in terms of content quality and quantity, as numerous polls and award shows have consistently ranked Netflix as the top streaming service.
Apple TV: A Surprising Third Choice
Netflix remains my top pick, but Apple TV is a close third, especially with its original series like The Morning Show. However, my appreciation for Apple TV is limited to a single standout show—after that, I am not particularly impressed with other offerings. Apple TV's catalog is impressive, but its quality varies. The only drawback is that I still prefer the extensive offerings of other platforms over its limited selection.
Disney Plus: A Divided Opinion
Disney Plus offers a mixed bag. While it boasts an incredible library of Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars content, I find their offerings unappealing. Movies and TV shows are repetitive and fail to engage me. The only standout content is Pixar, but the new content is often less frequently updated, making it difficult to justify subscription. Therefore, my interest in Disney Plus remains minimal.
In conclusion, while all the services have their merits, Netflix stands out as the supreme standalone service. However, considering all aspects, Amazon Prime offers a balanced mix of streaming, shopping, and other benefits. Ultimately, the best choice depends on your preferences and specific needs.
