Which Movie Was Better: Human Centipede or Human Centipede 2?

As a seasoned movie addict, I've watched my fair share of disturbing and pointless films. Recently, I stumbled upon a Human Centipede trailer and decided to dive in. Big mistake. This was one of the most revolting experiences I've ever had. The film is so disgusting, I truly believe its director should be arrested for psychopathic tendencies.

The Trilogy: An Analysis

Out of the trilogy, the first film is still the best. It attempts to be a horror movie, albeit a very gruesome one. Dieter Later, portrayed by Dieter Laser, was an intimidating and scary character, which kept viewers on edge. In contrast, Human Centipede 2 is nothing but a pointless and disgusting endeavor. The characters are unlikable, poorly written, and badly acted. There's no emotional investment to care about their fates, making the film lose its horror elements.

(Not) a Deliberately Bad Movie

Tom Six, the director of Human Centipede and Human Centipede 2, intentionally crafted these films to spark controversy, disgust, and even some admiration. While neither movie deserves the title of "good," they both stand out for different reasons.

The First Film: Psychological Horror

The horror is primarily psychological rather than relying on graphic blood and gore. No excrement is shown on screen, maintaining a certain level of restraint. Dieter Later's character is portrayed as a mad surgeon, creating an unsettling and eerie atmosphere. The use of the antiseptic interior of the doctor's home adds to the surreal and otherworldly dread.

The Second Film: Exploitation Gone Wrong

Human Centipede 2 takes things to another level, completely stripping away any subtlety. Every revolting scene is shown in grotesque detail. Despite the director's intentions, the film is more exploitative than terrifying. While it pushes boundaries, it fails to maintain the horror elements that the first film had.

A Personal Perspective

I personally prefer the first film. Despite its revolting premise, it manages to maintain some level of restraint, focusing on psychological horror rather than graphic violence. The use of the doctor's home's antiseptic environment contributes to the overall eerie and unsettling atmosphere. Dieter Laser's portrayal of the mad surgeon is brilliant, adding to the already surreal and disturbing experience.

Summary

Both films are intentionally bad, crafted to create controversy and attract attention. While neither can be considered a "good" movie, the first film manages to retain some horror elements, making it a more watchable experience. The second film, on the other hand, is nothing but a pointless and exploitative endeavor. If you're looking for thrills and chills, the first film is the better choice, though it's not without its flaws.
