Where Did Drogon Go After Daenerys at the End of Game of Thrones?
Did Drogon Go Back to Jon Snow at the End of Game of Thrones? If Not, Why?
I doubt he even stayed in Westeros. It’s more likely that Drogon, the mighty dragon, flew Daenerys's body to Old Valeria and is now participating in joyful flights with the newly born dragons. They are undoubtedly exploring G.R.R.M.’s vast world, free from the oppression of Dragonriders and war.
Dragons and Their Connections
Dragons, especially those of the Targaryen bloodline, have a profound connection to their riders. Drogon, born in the Dothraki Sea, is no exception. Dragons are known to return to their birthplace when given the chance, and I believe that Drogon followed this instinct. Given his strong bond with Daenerys, it’s highly probable that he took her to Essos for a proper farewell and burial.
Why Jon Snow and Drogon Aren't Together
It is suggested that Jon Snow killed Daenerys because he realized that she would continue her conquest and had her sights set on the North. While Drogon was present when the Iron Throne was destroyed, he didn’t stay with Jon. This separation can be understood through the bond between dragon and rider. Drogon had a deeper connection to Daenerys, who raised him from a hatchling to a powerful dragon. Jon, although a brave and powerful leader, was not the primary rider for Drogon.
Historical Context of Dragon Bonding
Throughout Targaryen and Valyrian history, dragons have bonded with a single rider. This unique relationship explains why Drogon remained loyal to Daenerys. The bond is so strong that it even led to the death of Rhaegel, who was claimed by Aegon. Despite Dany's grief at Rhaegel's death, her decision was final, with the admiral being executed by Daenerys herself.
Possible Future Encounters
Given the strong emotional bond between Jon and Drogon, it is plausible that Drogon could someday return to Jon. While Jon was indeed too weak to control Drogon, this weakness may have been temporary. Jon may have been outside the far North, where he could hear the distant screech of a dragon. Initially, he may have imagined it, but then he saw Drogon flying towards him.
Visualizing Their Reunion
Jon approached cautiously, and Drogon sniffed him just as he had on their first meeting. Then, Drogon extended a wing, inviting Jon to climb aboard. Jon's initial fear subsided, and he climbed onto Drogon's back. Drogon took a few running steps, and soon they were aloft, soaring high above the clouds. Jon realized that tears were rolling down his face as he had never fully grieved Rhaegal's death. This reunion would have rekindled the joy and freedom he had felt as a child.
This event would have provided a renewed sense of purpose for Jon, reminding him of the love he had for flight and the connection he shared with Drogon. It would also serve as a bittersweet reminder of Daenerys and the path she took, which ultimately cost her life but gave Jon a renewed sense of hope and freedom.
