What Would Happen If a Mormon Lapsed in Faith: A Journey of Discovery and Redemption

Leaving the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly known as the Mormon Church, is a life-changing decision that can lead to profound transformations. My personal journey offers a unique perspective on the impact of such a transition.

From Mormon to Presbyterian

When I left the Mormon Church, I had lived far enough away from it to comfortably say it was 'long ago.' It wasn't until my wife of 41 years passed suddenly that I found my church home again. I met a new woman who generously invited me to attend her Presbyterian Church. There, I discovered a wealth of teachings that the Mormon faith did not emphasize.

Our marriage was consecrated in this Presbyterian Church, and later, we transitioned to a non-denominational Christian church that preached only what the Bible taught. I learned that the Presbyterian Church, like many religious institutions, has adapted to current cultural norms at the expense of strict biblical teachings.

Growing Faith Outside the Mormon Church

For me, the experience of leaving the Mormon faith led to a deeper understanding of the Bible and Christian doctrine. I found solace in the words of scripture and sought a church where the teachings aligned strictly with biblical principles. My journey underscores the importance of finding a church that preaches only what is found in the Bible and applies it to modern life.

The Positive Outcomes of Apostasy

Some might argue that leaving the Mormon Church led to a miserable existence filled with regret and misfortune. However, my experience is quite different. The bumper-sticker saving habit instilled by the 10% tithe requirement has made me a responsible saver. My mission experience has given me a second language, allowing me to connect with people and understand their needs in a way that others may not.

As a naturally introverted individual, the Mormon Church's emphasis on always being happy has transformed me into a natural salesman. I have embraced this aspect of my faith, using it to my advantage in my professional life. My businesses have thrived, and I have taken stress-free vacations that reflect my success.

For others, the transition from Mormon to another church can lead to a wealth of converts. Many former Mormons find solace and guidance in different faiths, fostering a sense of community and purpose.

Personal Reflection and Decision

Despite the initial shock and struggle of realizing the church's teachings were not true, I took a different path. It took only two weeks for the realization to dawn, and I decided to act on my newfound determination by reading the Bible and other religious texts. Seven years after my departure, and even in the midst of challenges like the Covid-19 pandemic, I concluded that my decision to leave the Mormon faith was the best one I ever made.

My experience shows that while leaving a faith you once held dear can be challenging, the journey can lead to profound personal growth and a more fulfilling life. The freedom to seek truth and find a church that resonates with your beliefs is invaluable.

Others may face different outcomes, and it is important to prioritize personal happiness and God's word as the ultimate guides in one's life. The choice to leave a faith does not necessarily mean a miserable existence; it can be a path to greater understanding and fulfillment.
