Introduction

Do you think Raj deserved a better ending in The Big Bang Theory? As a die-hard fan of the show, I genuinely believe that Raj's ending wasn't entirely fitting for the character. This essay explores the possible reasons why Raj's ending was less than satisfactory and considers alternative endings that could have better suited him.

Why Raj Deserved a Better Ending

Throughout the series, Raj is one of my favorite characters. I particularly enjoyed the scenes he shared with Howard, which showcased both their close bond and Raj's distinctive personality. However, the ending crafted by the screenwriters left much to be desired. I firmly believe that Raj would have been better off with a more fitting conclusion.

One of the most disappointing aspects of Raj's ending was the pairing with Emily. While Emily's character was quirky and endearing, it was clear that she wasn't the best match for Raj from the perspective of his friends and her own personality. Claire, on the other hand, would have been a much more suitable partner. She had a lot in common with Raj’s friends, including hobbies and interests. Claire’s background as a scriptwriter and bartender mirrored that of Penny, adding an interesting dynamic to the group.

Another possibility would have been for Raj to remain single but to maintain a strong sense of happiness and self-sufficiency. This would have provided a different narrative arc for Raj, preventing the show from relying on predictable and stereotypical endings.

Perhaps the most important consideration was the reality and clarity of the ending. The decision to have Raj become romantically involved with Sarah Michelle Gellar seemed far-fetched and less than realistic. This sudden turn of events left many fans questioning the consistency and coherence of the story.

Alternative Endings for Raj

Considering all the options, I believe that Raj should have ended with either Emily, Claire, or Lucy. Defining which one is more fitting is challenging, but Claire stands out as a strong contender. Claire's character, as a scriptwriter and bartender, shares many similarities with Penny, suggesting a potential parallel storyline. They could have been a counterpart to Leonard and Penny, with Raj as the geeky/nerdy scientist.

The ending provided by the show had its merits. Raj's decision to pursue marriage would have mirrored what his friends Howard and Leonard had done, but it also represented a potential shift in his life trajectory. The last scene, showing all the characters sitting around a dinner table as they often did, suggested a sense of companionship and contentment, even if it was bittersweet for Raj. Howard's appearance at the airport hinted at the importance of his friendships, suggesting that Raj remained closer to his friends than his spouse.

Nonetheless, the uncertainty surrounding Raj's future left many questions unanswered. It's entirely possible that Raj could have found his ideal partner in Pasadena, becoming the fourth married man in the group. Alternatively, he could have taken on the role of a godfather, bringing joy to his friends' future generations.

Conclusion

Reflecting on Raj's ending, it's clear that there were multiple viable alternatives that could have better served the character and the storyline. Whether Raj's fate was ultimately satisfying or not, the show provided ample opportunity for fans to imagine what could have been. The enduring popularity of The Big Bang Theory demonstrates the deep connection between the audience and the characters, making a better ending a topic of continued discussion and debate.
