Voices of Resilience: My Parents Stand Up for Me
The Coolest Way My Parents Have Stood Up for Me
I have shared the long version of this story on Quora, but I wanted to recount it here as it has a profound impact.
The short version of this story is that my folks took my family in when we fled from my first husband and allowed me to stay with them while I was finishing Nursing School. However, my parents' stories of standing up for me are far more complex and inspiring.
Parents in Adversity
Their artin of standing up for me is not what you might expect. My mom pushed my dad out of my life at a very young age, marking a period of mental, emotional, and physical abuse. She then abandoned me at the age of 16, setting me adrift in a world of chaos and confusion. Despite the pain and difficulties, I am grateful that my journey led me to a deeper understanding of the Scriptures and a relationship with God. This ongoing journey of understanding contradictions and mysteries has been a 30-year task that resulted in a manuscript and a clearer relationship with God.
The Power of Parents' Support
Throughout my life, my parents have been a constant presence and a ray of light in my darkest moments. They stood up for every situation, whether it was a complaint about school, a mistake, or an embarrassing incident with a teacher. Their unwavering support and guidance have been instrumental in my personal growth and resilience.
Standing Up in Adversity
One instance stands out vividly in my mind. When I made a mistake and engaged in an embarrassing situation with a teacher who abused me verbally, I thought about seeking retribution. However, my friend, Lisa Marie, reminded me of my father's presence, and he intervened to resolve the issue. Afterward, when my parents went to the school to meet with the teachers, they found out about the complaint. My father calmly asked, 'What's that?' and dismissed the situation with a smile. The issue was buried, and life went on.
The Unwavering Love
My parents' love and support have been a steadfast presence in my life. They have been there through the good times and the bad, standing up for me and my family in every situation. Their unwavering support has helped me navigate life's challenges with resilience and grace.
While it is not the typical story of parental support, my journey with my parents has taught me the true meaning of resilience and the power of standing up for oneself.
Thank you, Mina, for putting these questions to me. Your questions help get a lot of things off my heart and allow me to reflect on my journey.
