Unveiling the Mysteries of the Force in the Star Wars Universe

The Force is not just a concept in the Star Wars universe; it is an energy field created by all living things, surrounding and penetrating the galaxy. This power, integral to the storyline and the characters, is a key element that binds the galaxy together.

From the Original Concept to the Force

Back in the early days of the Star Wars saga, the story was originally set to feature three young protagonists—a boy, another boy, and a girl—on the run from the Empire. The narrative envisioned their journey on a worn-out freighter, not unlike the Millennium Falcon, with a pilot named Han Solo. Interestingly, Han's name wasn't just a nickname; it carried a dual meaning: "he’s such a bad pilot he trips over the sky" as well as "flies while on a drug trip."

During his drug-induced trips, Han would experience visions that his companions initially thought were hallucinations. These visions, however, later proved to be prescient. Han could also use the Force to perform telekinetic feats, such as grabbing beers from the fridge and popping the caps without touching them. When one of the kids, named Lucas, saw this, he exclaimed, "What’s THAT!" to which Han retorted, dismissively, "oh that’s just the Force. It ain’t no big deal." Han even attempted to teach Lucas how to use telekinesis to fetch his own beer bottles.

The story further evolved to include a bounty hunter with a dark past, known as Darnvader, who had a warrant for the young protagonists. During an intense confrontation, Darnvader killed Han, but Lucas, utilizing the Force, managed to stun Darnvader with a telekinetic beer bottle smash. This pivotal moment marked the introduction of the Force in a grander context, setting the stage for the eventual rise of the Jedi and the overarching narrative of the first Star Wars trilogy.

The Layers of the Force: Control, Sense, and Alter

In the original Star Wars canon, the Force was divided into three lesser abilities: Control, Sense, and Alter. These abilities provide a deeper understanding of the force's power and versatility.

Control

Able to heal oneself and others Resist mental attacks and add Force powers to a lightsaber Enhance or alter their physical attributes through 'Enhanced Attribute' Absorb or dissipate energy Ignore pain and stay conscious even when mortally wounded Toxin and poison detoxification

These abilities are shared by all Jedi and Sith, regardless of what the Disney canon might indicate. These powers underscore the immense control and resilience that Jedi and Sith can achieve through their mastery of the Force.

Sense

The Sense ability allows Jedi and Sith to:

Gain visions of the future Perceive alternate EM spectra Develop super hearing and a sixth sense Employ other heightened sensory perceptions

This ability grants a deeper understanding of the universe, enabling powerful foresight and intuition.

Alter

The Alter ability encompasses:

Telekinesis Force Lightning Jedi Mind Tricks Draining life from adversaries or animals Transferring one's soul into a new body Flying Cloaking Pyrokinesis The use of Crystal Star devices

These abilities demonstrate the raw power and potential that both Jedi and Sith can harness, making the Force a central element in their quests and conflicts across the galaxy.

From humble beginnings to grand-scale narratives, the Force has become an indispensable part of the Star Wars universe, influencing every character's journey and shaping the overall story. Whether through its control, sense, or alterative powers, the Force remains a crucial element that drives both the framework and the emotional depth of the franchise.
