Unpopular Opinions on the Arrowverse
Unpopular Opinions on the Arrowverse
The Arrowverse, a vibrant tapestry of interconnected DC Comics characters, has been a staple in modern television. I, a devoted fan of the series, have some opinions that might not align with conventional views. Let's delve into these unique perspectives.
Supergirl: A Bittersweet Show
Super Girl, the first TV-14 show that captured my genuine enjoyment, has a special place in my heart. Despite the show's occasional weirdness and political undertones, it remains a standout. People often complain about the series, yet I can't help but appreciate it. One of the most irritating aspects is the non-canon but still popular ship involving grounded characters. While I may be biased, the show explicitly states that one of the characters is straight—end of discussion. Are people really forgetting that detail?
The Flash: A Ship Worth Pondering
When it comes to the Flash, the ship everyone seems to hate is actually quite good. Despite popular belief, the marriage of Barry Allen and Cecille Williams has its merits. Why is it so heavily criticized? Is it simply an Arrowverse tradition to reject canon pairings and excessively bash them? Reflecting on Arrow, a show that has been in decline since its fifth season, I still hold it in high regard. Supergirl is good, flash is…less so, Legends of Tomorrow was terrible in season four, and Batwoman just doesn't sit well with me.
Viewing the Arrowverse with a Humorous Lens
One of the most underappreciated aspects of the Arrowverse is its humor. Comic book heroes are fictional characters, so it's important to take it all with a grain of salt. I don't hate Ollicity, and I'm a supporter of all the shows. Even the so-called 'SJW' Batwoman show holds a place in my heart. The show has its moments, and I enjoy the lighter, more lighthearted aspects.
Thoughts on Character Deaths and Shows
Regarding character deaths, Joe West should have breathed his last a long time ago, unless the series plans to emulate Quentin in Arrow's season six. The best season of the Flash was undoubtedly its third, overshadowed by Arrow's fifth. While the Flash is no longer as good as its predecessor, Arrow remains the pinnacle of the Arrowverse. Supergirl, while step above mediocre, has its heart, and the Flash's season four onward has been problematic. Legends' season four was a disaster, and Batwoman, despite having some strong points, is just not my cup of tea.
Despite the occasional unpopular opinions, the Arrowverse remains a deeply loved series for me and many others. Whether it's the humor, the relationships, or the excitement of bringing together DC superheroes, there is much to appreciate in this universe.
