Unpopular Insights on BTS: A Fan’s Honest View

As a long-time fan of BTS, it has been a journey filled with emotions, passion, and moments of introspection. However, through this experience, I have come to hold some unpopular opinions that might be hard for other fans to accept. These insights form a mix of admiration and critical thoughts, aimed at both the band members and their fan base.

Vocal Performance: An Area for Improvement

When it comes to the vocal line of BTS, I must admit that it isn't that great. While I stand by the band and love all the members, it would be dishonest to say that their vocals are legendary. While their techniques are not terrible, their voices can be unstable during live performances. The only member whose voice doesn't shake during live shows is Jungkook. Collaborations with professionals and consistent vocal training can significantly improve their performance. Although BTS is a professional and successful boy band, they can afford better training and more practice to enhance their vocal skills.

Taehyung: A Fan’s Wrecker, But with Issues

Taehyung, my bias wrecker, has recently disappointed me with his behavior. I found it troubling that he laughed during the live stream when his friend failed an audition in front of the entire world. Moreover, when Jennie was sent death threats due to a dating rumor, Taehyung stayed silent. This silence has clashed with his previous actions, such as telling ARMYs to back off on Weverse during the rumor with Joanne, but not when Jennie was being severely bullied and harassed online.

Fandom Behavior: A Double-Edged Sword

The behavior of the ARMY fandom has significantly impacted the perception of BTS. Although the band has a huge fan base and has achieved global success, the fandom's behavior has led to a lack of respect from non-fans. The ARMY has been known for its fan culture, which can sometimes verge into trolling and harassment. My belief is that a more positive and respectful behavior from the ARMY could lead to more fans and a better reputation for BTS.

Jungkook: A Vocalist with Potential and Room for Improvement

I love Jungkook, and he is my favorite vocalist, but his musical style is often described as generic. When he created "Left and Right," it was too predictable, and "Begin" was so boring. Although some of his music can be generic, his voice is angelic and has the potential to produce incredible music. "Still with You" is arguably his best solo work to date. Therefore, I sincerely hope that Jungkook could use his talent to create amazing music that doesn't follow generic patterns.

Namjoon: The Genius Mind of BTS

Of all the members, Namjoon is the one who stands out as the genius mind behind BTS. His contributions to the band's success are immeasurable, and without him, they would not be where they are today. Namjoon has apologized for his past colorist/racist moments and has taken steps to educate himself. However, black ARMYs have the right to not fully forgive the boys. ARMYs should not expect black fans to automatically forgive the boys; they should respect their feelings and understand that healing takes time.

Online Spaces: A Mixed Bag

The online fandom space, unfortunately, has become a platform for controversy and negativity. Every online ARMY space is either filled with crazy shippers or people making assumptions about the boys. Thus, the entire fandom culture appears toxic. People can't even express their opinions on a hairstyle without being called delusional. The level of insensitivity and intolerance in these spaces is alarming, and it makes these online forums both a sanctuary and a cesspool.

However, there is a silver lining. While almost every online ARMY space is a mess, there are still some communities that remain slightly less disrespectful. For example, OneHallyu tends to be more civil and respectful compared to others.

Conclusion

BTS continues to inspire, challenge, and ultimately refine my perception of the music industry. While I find myself sharing these unpopular opinions, I hope they will encourage a more honest and constructive conversation within the fan base. Only through sincere dialogue can we continue to grow and improve, both as fans and individuals.
