Tired of Inspirational Quotes and Online Toxicity
Tired of Saying “All Good Things Come to an End”
When has the phrase “all good things come to an end” ever been more cliché than it is right now? Say it once, and it’s like saying “because I said so.” It’s become a crutch for people who either don’t want to deal with your feelings or are just too lazy to find a better way to respond to your concerns.
Trigger Warnings and Online Environment
There’s a persistent annoyance I have been dealing with for too long, and it has to do with trigger warnings. It’s not about the word itself or the impact it can have, but the way it is often dismissed with the mantra “because you don’t need me to censor for you.”
"People argue that people should just censor themselves, which I fully support, but it’s a different issue when someone is deliberately triggering others. It’s not always about the words themselves; it’s about the context and intention behind them. The anger and frustration I feel isn’t about being more important or needing special treatment. It’s about the reality that the internet is a rough place, and we shouldn’t pretend otherwise.",
Respecting Individual Differences
There have been times when I've encountered people suggesting I should get off the internet because certain words trigger me. This is not a reasonable solution, especially when one considers the myriad of reasons individuals might choose to stay online. I enjoy the internet just as much as the next person. The idea of people telling me to quit because of a word or phrase is simply harsh and counterproductive.
Even though I'm not a religious person, I do respect the sentiments and beliefs of others. Therefore, I’ve included a gentle disclaimer for any religious references in this article. Please bear with the following lines:
“God is great” “God works in mysterious ways” “The day is long, the nights are few” – Jarigindi in Telugu “In this life” – positivity within “Our ideologies are different” – in Telugu “God bless you” – I don’t believe in him but welcome blessings from othersThe Problem with Overly Positive Quotes
There is a common belief that life is nothing but joy and beauty, and that we should smile because life is too short to be unhappy. This quote is often misinterpreted and used to silence legitimate grievances. While it is true that life is short and we should cherish every moment, it is unrealistic to expect that every moment will be blissful.
Quotes like “life is beautiful” and “smile because life is too short to be unhappy” can be patronizing, especially when they come from people who have never had the weight of their emotions and experiences. It’s not about being unhappy; it’s about navigating through life with a sense of resilience and understanding.
In reality, life is a mix of joyous moments and challenging ones. Accepting that not every day will be filled with rainbows and unicorns can be a refreshing change. The key is to embrace the lows and highs, allowing ourselves to feel all the emotions without suppression.
If you're having a hard time, give yourself some time to process. Sometimes, distance from a situation can provide clarity. However, if you're struggling for a prolonged period, seeking professional help is necessary and nothing to be ashamed of.
Don't limit yourself by thinking that you need a safe and perfect life to live. Instead, be real about your feelings and express them. Your happiness and well-being are more important than conforming to unrealistic expectations.
