The Worst Arrowverse Shows: A Comprehensive Analysis

With a vast array of shows featuring characters and plots from DC Comics, some series in the Arrowverse stand out as top-notch, while others fail to meet the high standards set by the rest. In this article, we will explore which Arrowverse shows are considered the worst and why.

Supergirl - The One LINER

When it comes to the worst Arrowverse show, Supergirl stands out. Fans and critics alike have a tendency to agree. Unlike the unique and fascinating mythos of Martian Manhunter and the dynamic family drama of Supergirl's sister, Kara, the other episodes tend to fall flat and miss the mark. Kara's storyline is amusing and engaging, but everything else in the series is simply trash.

Contrasting Kara's elder sister, Season 1 of Batgirl introduces the character Kaci, portrayed by Lexi Atkins. This decision to kill off Kaci and replace her in Season 2 with Cassandra Cain is a major misstep. Kaci's character development was limited, and her abilities were not fully realized. With no prior training, Cassandra's character felt underwhelming and unprepared to compete with villains she should have been a match for. Her skills were highly dependent on her suit, which further diminished her presence in the show.

The Complex Case of Constantine

Constantine, while derivative and not closely tied to the Arrowverse, still had its merits. Although the performances and writing weren't remarkable, the show didn't significantly impact the main storyline of Arrow and its interconnected tales. There were no major crossovers, which allowed the show to continue without the need for viewers to follow closely for updates. Watching Constantine was purely a choice based on a recommendation list rather than a sense of necessity.

The Annoying Characters and Writing of Batwoman

Batwoman takes the crown as the worst Arrowverse show from a writing and character development standpoint. The show is laden with terrible dialogue and portrayals, filled with annoying characters who push a liberal agenda without nuance. The villain, while technically terrible, was not a significant enough presence to overshadow the general disdain for the series. Batwoman's portrayal of Batman as one of the greatest DC heroes of all time is also heavily questioned, as it feels more like a forced narrative to fit a particular political ideology.

The Declining Quality of Arrowverse Shows

As the seasons progress, the overall quality of the Arrowverse shows seems to be declining. If pressed to name the worst, both Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl were once the standouts, but they've improved slightly in recent years. Legends of Tomorrow is currently the worst, especially with its storyline and the performance of Ray and Nora. The show managed to be 4/10, barely scraping by with a few positive aspects.

Supergirl has seen an improvement, particularly in recent seasons. The villain Lex Luthor was a strong addition, and the character of Darth Maul was well-received. Agent Liberty, while not groundbreaking, was a positive addition to the show. Supergirl received a more favorable rating of 7.5/10, making it one of the better Arrowverse shows in recent years.

The Flash has also seen its share of ups and downs. The Cicada storyline was poorly handled, with the second one being a non-sequitur. The second half of the season improved with the introduction of Eobard Thawne and Nora Lance. Overall, the Flash was rated 6/10, with a slightly lower score of 4.5/10 if Ray and Nora were excluded from the assessment.

Arrow started strong but gradually lost its edge. The first half of the season was memorable, especially the fight with Prometheus in Season 5, but the latter parts of the season were lackluster. The performance of Emiko is noted as disappointing, while Diaz's character failed to capture the audience's interest. The show still managed to hit 6/10, making it one of the more consistent series in the Arrowverse.

Final Thoughts

While each Arrowverse show has its ups and downs, the debate over the worst remains. Batwoman stands out with its poor writing, annoying characters, and heavy-handed political messaging. The other series, while not without their flaws, often have redeeming qualities that keep them from being as universally panned as others in the Arrowverse.
