The Majesty of Letchworth State Park

The heart of my quest lies in the picturesque Letchworth State Park, where the summer zenith heralds a celestial alignment as the Milky Way weaves its luminous tapestry above the Genesee River valley. This park, known for its stunning Upper Falls, embodies the essence of nature's tranquil beauty. Over a year, I made multiple pilgrimages to capture the essence of this moment, every passage a journey of sixty miles. Yet, the perfect shot eluded me on each trip, hidden by the relentless spray or the vigilant night.

A Solo Journey and an Unseen Guardian

My third journey to the park's Upper Falls witnessed a closer berth to the base of the falls. As the clock's hands edged past midnight, a figure resembling a beacon of light appeared. Suspicion kindled; was it a guardian, or perhaps a protector? By the time I reached the trail, the beacon had vanished into the night. This experience, though mysterious, served as a reminder of the sometimes unseen guardians in our lifetime.

A Tale of a Gentle Gorilla and the Man Who Loved Her

Images often speak louder than words, capturing moments that speak to the heart. Such is the story of Ndakasi, a female gorilla whose life story is one of beauty, love, and the indomitable human spirit.

Andre Bauma, a man of immense compassion and dedication, discovered Ndakasi as a two-month-old baby in 2007. Her mother, a mandrill gorilla, had been brutally killed by poachers. Realizing the odds were against the young gorilla, Bauma brought her to his gorilla orphanage, where she was raised and nurtured over the next 14 years.

Much like the photographer's journey through the falls, Ndakasi and Bauma formed an incredibly close bond. Their relationship was marked by mutual respect and love. One particular photograph, taken in the orphanage, epitomized this bond.
