The Seasons of Supernatural: My Favorite and Why

When it comes to the television series Supernatural, I have a unique perspective that isn't always shared by fans. While many cherish later seasons for their overarching storylines, I hold a special place in my heart for season 1. Here, I will delve into why I believe it's the best and reflect on some of my favorite episodes from other seasons.

Why Season 1 Was the Best for Me

Season 1 of Supernatural may not be the most well-known in the series, but it holds a special place in my heart. Often criticized for its focus on one-off monsters and a lack of overarching storyline, I find this to be a significant charm rather than a flaw. The show delivered exactly what it promised - a journey through the United States that investigates urban legends and contemporary folklore. This mix of mythology, urban legends, and a mix of different religious and mythological elements was refreshing and engaging.

For enthusiasts of urban legends and folklore, every episode in this season felt like a treasure trove of interesting and spooky stories. From the Hitchhiker to the various hauntings, each episode was a mix of the thrilling and the eerie. The show's strength in providing a wealth of lore and different monsters kept the story interesting and engaging.

However, it's important to note that as the series progressed, it began to lose its charm by abandoning this format. While later seasons brought more overarching storylines, they also sometimes felt like they lacked the individual charm and storytelling of season 1.

Season 4: The Badass Castiel and Favorite Episodes

While I have strong feelings for season 1, I must admit that season 4 holds a unique place in my heart, chiefly due to the character of Castiel. For me, season 4 of Supernatural is when Castiel truly becomes a powerhouse. There are several standout seasons in the series, but when it comes to favorite individual episodes, I gravitate towards those that showcase Castiel at his coolest and baddest.

Of course, my favorite overall episode from season 4 is 'The French Mistake'. This episode is always a hit for its humor and topline quality, but it's just so much joy to watch. Other episodes that stick out to me include:

'Yellow Fever' 'Bad Day at Black Rock' 'Scoobynatural' 'Ghostfacers' 'Yellow Fever' 'The Girl with the Dungeons and Dragons Tattoo' 'Clap Your Hands if You Believe' 'Dog Dean Afternoon'

Seasonal Toss up: 10 or 11

When it comes to favorite seasons, it's a toss-up between seasons 10 and 11. Season 10 begins with a stunning cliffhanger and ends with a beautiful, tragic resolution. However, I personally prefer the villain in season 11, which added a new edge to the series. There are elements in season 10 that hurt to rewatch, but the overall start and ending were absolutely perfect for me.

Others, of course, have different opinions. A friend of mine is a huge fan of season 6. It's a mystery as to whether it's the fan's attachment or simply the strong writing that makes it such a favorite. For me, season 10 and 11 are a blend of both - a mix of beautiful storytelling and action-packed confrontations.

The Final Verdict

When it comes to Supernatural, it's clear that every fan has their own favorite season and episodes. The choice largely depends on personal preference and what aspects of the show one enjoys most. For me, season 1 represents the essence of what Supernatural was about from its inception - a thrilling adventure through the basics of the supernatural. Season 4 signifies the advent of the real Castiel, and seasons 10 and 11 bring together the best of both worlds, with strong story arcs and action.

What about you? Which season or episode is your favorite, and why?
