The Regrettable Korean Dramas: Unfulfilled Emotions and Frustrating Endings
Many viewers, including myself, find themselves regretting certain Korean dramas due to unsatisfying plots and disappointing endings. In this article, we will explore some of these dramas and analyze why they left a bitter taste in our mouths.
25 Twenty One: A Disappointing Climax
25 Twenty One was interesting until the 9–11 storyline, which marked a significant downturn. The ending left us feeling betrayed, as the main relationship, between Na Hee-do and Baek Yi-jin, did not resolve in a satisfying manner. The show relied heavily on Na Hee-do's daughter, Ms. Na, reading her mother's diaries, which provided insight into the past. However, the final episode left the storyline incomplete, representing a disappointing conclusion for fans of the series.
Do Do La La Sol Sol La: An Unfulfilled Story
Do Do La La Sol Sol La was a series that started with a promising premise. While the main character, Jang Man-wol, did improve by the end, her character arc felt repetitive. An evil ghost would show up, they would get rid of it; a sad ghost would appear, and they would help it move on. The essence of the story became monotonous and uninteresting. Despite skipping to the end to see the final resolution, the conclusion was underwhelming, with Jang Man-wol achieving closure, but Koo Chan-sung being left behind to work for her replacement, who was even worse.
Possessed! A Tragic and Unfulfilled Romance
Possessed! was one of my first forays into Korean dramas, and it was a mix of delightful and tragic storylines. Initially, the dynamics between the female protagonist and the male cop were interesting, with hints of attraction and the development of their relationship. However, the tragic element of the plot escalated when the killer acquired supernatural powers, making the situation more perilous. The female protagonist was forced to embrace her shamanic legacy, and despite making a desperate move, she planted a kiss on the male lead, which led to an eternal 'star-crossed lovers' phase.
Unfortunately, the story took a darker turn. The killer became obsessed with proving humanity's worthlessness and even coerced the male cop to commit a heinous act. Their love endured many obstacles, and in a tragic climax, the male lead was forced to shoot the female protagonist to save her from the killer. This scene left an indelible mark and left the audience feeling depressed for days. The attempt at redemption was weak, as the couple was shown to be preschoolers in their next life, which did not compensate for the tragedy.
Conclusion
These Korean dramas are notable for their unsatisfying endings and unfulfilled storylines, which left a bitter taste in our mouths. While some may enjoy these complex and tragic storylines, others prefer a more conclusive and satisfying conclusion. If you are a fan of Korean dramas, it is essential to consider whether you can handle the emotional roller coaster that these shows can provide.
