The Mysterious Fate of Ezra and Thrawn: Where Are They Now?
The Mysterious Fate of Ezra and Thrawn: Where Are They Now?
No one knows for sure what happened to Ezra Bridger and Thrawn after their dramatic journey through hyperspace at the end of Star Wars Rebels. After Ezra used the Force to bind Thrawn with space whale tentacles, both captives vanished into the unknown regions of the galaxy. Dave Filoni confirms that they are still alive but their fate remains a mystery.
Into the Unknown Regions
Thrawn and Ezra jumped into the Unknown Regions of the galaxy, a vast and uncharted area beyond the known parts of the galaxy. Given that the First Order rose to power in that area just six years later, it's quite possible that Ezra and Thrawn may be involved in events related to the First Order. Their journey took them to an unknown destination, far from the core of the galaxy, where they were dragged through hyperspace by a pod of space whales, a bizarre yet intriguing twist.
Surviving this journey were Captain Pellaeon and several other characters from the Thrawn Trilogy who had been part of the original Legends continuity. According to timelines, both Thrawn and Ezra were alive after their mysterious disappearance, as confirmed by Timothy Zahn, the creator of Thrawn's character.
Theories and Speculations
While many fans are eager to know their fate, a season finale of Star Wars Rebels left their story open-ended. At the end of 'Family Reunion and Farewell,' Ezra's pod journeyed into uncharted space several years later, with Ahsoka Tano and Sabine Wren embarking on a mission to bring Ezra back. Despite indications from Timothy Zahn that Thrawn's character had evolved in the Legends timeline, neither their ultimate fates nor the details of their storyline were confirmed.
Role in the Sequel Trilogy
The absence of Ezra Bridger in The Rise of Skywalker's final battle against Kylo Ren and the resurrected Emperor Palpatine raises speculation that he may still be alive. Interestingly, Ahsoka Tano was heard among the spirits of Jedi aiding Rey, while Kanan Jarrus and other Jedi were mentioned as well. This could imply that Ezra's role in the galaxy post-Resurgence is significant enough to be acknowledged by the Force.
However, Kanan Jarrus died in the season 4 episode 'Dume,' and Ahsoka's fate is unknown in the Canon. If Ahsoka's presence suggests that she has passed away, then it could be that Ezra might still be alive, possibly in a future TV series, book, or comic.
As the Mandalorian and Tano series continue to unfold, fans eagerly await any hint or clue about the whereabouts and fate of Ezra and Thrawn. Their journey into the unknown regions remains one of the most intriguing unanswered questions in the Star Wars universe.
