The Most Brutal Movies That Will Haunt Your Dreams
Which is the Most Brutal Movie You’ve Ever Watched and Regretted Watching?
From shocking films that shake us to our core to movies so melancholic that they haunt our memories for years, the most brutal movies can leave a lasting impact. In this article, I share my personal experiences and insights on brutally difficult films that I’ve found particularly hard to watch, with one in particular that I still regret for years.
Personal Experiences with Brutal Movies
One of the most difficult films for me to watch was "The Audition" (1999). As a widower who uses auditions for a fake film to act as a dating service, it's a story that feels familiar from the start. However, the film's execution and the narrative twists never quite prepared me for the gut-wrenching emotional journey it takes you on. I had to stop multiple times during the film, which left me feeling deeply affected long after it was over.
List of the Seven Worst Movies I’ve Seen
Here is a list of seven films that are often so poorly made or executed that watching them feels like a chore:
Fantastic Four (2015) - 5/10 Godzilla (1998) - 5/10 Frozen - 4/10 Alvin and the Chipmunks - 4/10 Batman and Robin - 3/10 Jack and Jill - 0/10 Jaws: The Revenge - 0/10The Most Brutal Movie: "Pink Flamingos"
One of the most brutal and memorable movies I’ve ever watched is "Pink Flamingos" (1972). I received a video tape copy of the film around 30 years ago from a friend who viewed it alone in ten-minute bursts over two days. I too cried after finishing it and immediately tossed it in the garbage, feeling that I could never unsee it. The film is a dismal piece of sad vomit that I couldn’t believe was made in the same medium as classics like "City Lights," "Ordet," and "L'Avventura."
Another Horrifying Experience: "Cool World"
Another movie that left a negative impact on me is "Cool World" (1997). My friend and I agreed that we had lost 2 hours of our lives and would never get them back. The experience was so bad that we literally told the studio rep our thoughts upon leaving the cinema. While "Cool World" isn’t among the handful of movies I outright hate, it is a film that I greatly dislike and would avoid at all costs.
Horror and Discomfort: Adam Sandler Films
During a particularly intense period when my brother was obsessed with Adam Sandler films, he forced me to watch three or four of his movies in quick succession. Two of these films, "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" and "Click," left a lasting impression on me. "You Don't Mess with the Zohan" made me uncomfortable, and "Click" messed with my head. At the time, I wondered if you were thinking of horror films, but in reality, non-horror films can be just as brutal and subtract from the viewer's life in their own way.
Conclusion
Brutal films can leave a lasting impact on our lives and memories. While some of the movies we list here might be considered classics or blockbusters, their reputation as brutal and regrettable viewing experiences is well-known. If you're planning to watch any of these films, be prepared for a difficult experience that might leave you questioning your time management skills.
