The Impact of These Three Movies on My Life Journey

Throughout my life, certain movies have left an indelible mark on my soul. Three particular films have had a profound effect on me, shaping my perspectives on life, The Amazing Spider-Man, Vanilla Sky, and The Shawshank Redemption. Each one has played a unique role in my personal development, offering me lessons that still resonate today.

The Amazing Spider-Man: A Journey into Adulthood

The Amazing Spider-Man came out in 2012, a movie that caught my attention during the summer of 2017. I was 17 at the time, feeling on top of the world. This film not only captivated me with its dark, gritty feel but also brought back the memories that brought me a sense of relaxation. The visuals were striking, and the romance was heartfelt. However, the characterization, as I see it now, was the most memorable aspect. I related deeply to Peter Parker, forgetting about Spider-Man, comics, or any other versions of the character. For me, it was solely about a movie character who was a mystery, and understanding him was astonishing.

Reflecting on Peter Parker's life, I find myself empathizing with his tragic experiences. How he was overlooked, how he felt alone and guilty, and how he initially used his powers for selfish reasons and revenge. Eventually, he learned to protect others, but even with his powers, nothing really changed for him. This realization laid the foundation of the GROWN-UP in me. The maturity and emotional depth portrayed in the film were significant for my personal growth.

Vanilla Sky: A Tale of Complicated Emotions and Interpretation

Vanilla Sky, released in 2001, was a film that I downloaded illegally one summer. I created so much hype about it, imagining it would be incredibly confusing. However, when I watched it in one sitting, I was already in the know. I didn't need a second watch, as I was captivated by the story and the various interpretations that followed. I didn't understand the cinematic techniques, cinematography, or the soundtrack at the time, but I was drawn to the meaningful discussions that surrounded the film, which taught me about the fear of being alone. Watching Vanilla Sky laid the foundation of the STORYTELLER in me and made me appreciate the value of intellectuality over superficial luxury.

The Shawshank Redemption: A Testimony of Hope

The Shawshank Redemption, released in 1994, will always be mentioned when I talk about movies that changed my life. My cousin gave me this film, and I initially thought it would be a painful watch, but it turned out to be a profound experience that introduced me to true cinema and IMDb. This movie taught me the value of hope, an emotion that is often depicted in deep, emotional tales. While it's a choice that many might mention, The Shawshank Redemption holds a special place in my heart because of the impact it had on my understanding of cinema and the depth of human experiences.

These three films offer a mix of emotional depth and personal growth, which have made a lasting impact on my life. Whether it's the journey into adulthood through The Amazing Spider-Man, the complex emotions and interpretations in Vanilla Sky, or the enduring theme of hope in The Shawshank Redemption, they have all played a significant part in shaping who I am today.
