The Biblical Flood and Scientific Theories

The Bible speaks of a great flood that covered the earth, but it leaves many questions unanswered. Where did the waters come from, and where did they go? This article delves into the scientific theories that might explain the events of the biblical flood, with a focus on tectonic movements and the possible cause of such a catastrophic event.

Geological Evidence and Tectonic Movement

The Bible does not explicitly tell us where the ocean water came from and went, but there have been several theories proposed by both biblical scholars and scientists. One such theory comes from Russel Crandall and Greg Hancock, who provided evidence that an asteroid may have hit the earth, causing vast flooding.

One compelling theory suggests that tectonic movements, such as the division of the continents, could have caused a significant shift in the earth's surface. The Genesis account mentions that the earth was covered with water, and the Holy Spirit caused dry land to appear. Tectonic plates could have shifted, moving continental masses along with them.

A Possible Explanation Based on Earth's Core and Magnetic Field

My alternative theory posits that God, during creation, structured the earth in a unique way. The central core of the earth is thought to be an iron ball, roughly the size of Mars, with a liquid and solid iron core. For the purpose of my theory, let's assume this core was very cold, close to absolute zero, with a superconducting film coating the surface. This would create a strong static magnetic field, protecting the earth from radiation.

Imagine that when God created the world, He placed large, deep-reaching "rivers" running North and South, every 30 degrees longitude, forming a vast hydrological system. Under these rivers were vast return tubes, similar to underwater caves, which could contain enormous amounts of water. This system could hold the 332 million cubic miles of water currently on Earth. The thought is that the water from the flood was contained in this underground system before the flood and drained into the oceans afterward.

Catastrophic Events Leading to the Flood

When sin and death entered the world, significant natural changes occurred. The superconducting property of the thin film coating the earth's core could have disappeared, causing a sudden heat surge. The magnetic field began to weaken, releasing massive electrical currents that heated the rocks above.

Over time, the rocks above the liquid core melted, forming a rock-gas plasma. The rapid release of this heat caused the mantle above to rise, displacing water and creating high-pressure steam pockets. These steam pockets eventually broke through the rock layers, creating massive tsunamis and flooding much of the earth's surface.

The steam also condensed into super cooled water, which when encountered in the atmosphere could form disastrous icing conditions. Some of this steam made its way into the atmosphere, creating massive storms that rained for forty days and forty nights.

The Aftermath of the Flood

The upheaval caused by the flood reshaped the earth, creating the mountain ranges and deep valleys we see today. The release of water from the underground systems created massive tsunamis, inflicting destruction and forming the great oceans we now see. The fossil records of frozen mastodons and the presence of coal and oil deposits all point to a significant geological event in earth's history.

Finally, the great flood left its mark on the earth, reshaping its surface and creating the conditions necessary for the beginning of a new world after the terrible event. This new world included the covenant between God and Noah, symbolized by the bow in the sky, and the promise that the earth would never be destroyed again by a flood, but only by fire.

In conclusion, while the Bible provides a narrative of the flood, ongoing geological studies and alternative theories provide a scientific basis for understanding the events that may have occurred during this pivotal time in earth's history.
