Snape's Complex Feelings: How Harry's Potion Skills Evoked Various Emotions in Him

As the war raged on and the stakes grew higher in the magical world of Harry Potter, so did the pressure for Snape's potions to meet the high standards required for any aspiring Auror. However, the path to achieving such goals was often fraught with challenges and conflicting emotions, especially when it came to Harry Potter.

Rules and Rebellion

Frustration and a sense of injustice often whispered in Snape's mind whenever he saw Harry Potter effortlessly circumventing rules to achieve his desired outcomes. Strategically, it was clear that Snape's brat would always find a way to turn the rules to his advantage. In one moment, he might have a fit of temper under his breath, lamenting the way wealthy and privileged Gryffindor students continued to get their way as always. Before Snape could fully entertain such negative thoughts, he would quickly remind himself that life was inherently unfair – a truth he would never fully question – and return to the task of adorning his DADA classroom, finding a small measure of joy in it.

Slughorn's Influence

The introduction of lower grading standards by Slughorn, changing the minimum grade from an O to an E, altered the landscape significantly. It may be argued that Slughorn was only looking to ensure that students with lesser abilities could still have the opportunity to take advanced classes, but Snape likely viewed it as favoritism. He reasoned that Harry Potter didn't earn the E grade because he was below average. Instead, it must have been due to bias from the Ministry officials, conveniently ignoring the fact that they had previously accused Harry of being a liar.

Unimpressed but Resigned

Snape was undoubtedly annoyed but unsurprised by this development. He placed a critical set of criteria for advancement, but Horace Slughorn had different standards, likely influenced by the testimonials of Professor McGonagall and the Headmaster. Despite his complaints, Snape resorted to his usual pattern: complaining and getting back to work, ensuring that he could teach as much DADA knowledge to his Slytherin students as possible before Lord Voldemort's return. Additionally, he continued his mission of espionage and making sure Harry Potter didn't get himself killed. Still, it's clear that Snape wasn't entirely pleased with the situation, but his circumstances were such that he was often resigned to not having his way.

Through these various intersecting emotions and events, it becomes evident how deeply entwined the world of Harry Potter is with the complex interplay of emotions and motivations that shape Snape's decisions and thoughts.
