Roseannes Political Stance: Why She Supports Trump in the Reboot
Roseanne's Political Stance: Why She Supports Trump in the Reboot
Thanks for the A2A, Justin.
Populism and Hypocrisy
Roseanne is a populist, just like Trump. She is sick of politically correct hypocrisy, much like many people. For Roseanne, Trump represents a sharp rebuke to this hypocrisy. One of his best (and worst) qualities is that he speaks his mind, something we haven't seen in a U.S. President since Harry Truman. His honesty is appreciated by many who feel ignored by mainstream politics.
Market Strategy and Demographics
Supporting Trump on the reboot is a strategic move. The writers and producers have recognized a significant demographic that supports Trump. This demographic is both numerous and often ignored by their competitors. It's a smart business move; just like Toyota releasing the Prius, they've identified a market and are capitalizing on it. The reboot will appeal to viewers who support Trump, making it a commercial success.
Comedy and Character Development
Roseanne's comedic instincts and desire to be relevant in TV when the 'fall' occurs are key reasons for her support. Her character will become the new 'Archie Bunker' in a modern context, the best punchline ever for her show. This approach is similar to how Norman Lear's All in the Family was a powerful commentary on social issues. The character, rather than Roseanne Barr herself, is the focus of the joke.
Surprising Real-Life Support
To my surprise, Roseanne publicly supported Trump in real life. This is just as perplexing as anyone who supports Trump. I don’t know if she still supports him or if Ann Coulter, who previously supported him, has changed her mind. Coulter now calls Trump out for his actions, and it's telling that the Republican Congressional leadership doesn't agree with her anymore.
Political Illiteracy
A significant portion of the U.S. population, including Roseanne Barr, believes the President is responsible for actions taken by congressmen, political donors, senators, governors, mayors, and others. This tunnel vision often results in a lack of critical thinking about the President's actions and the roles of other political figures.
She voted for him, and that tells us a lot about how much of America feels and why many in middle America say the coasts are not representative of the country as a whole. The ratings for the reboot speak volumes: it was the most watched sitcom episode in four years, yet it wasn't in the top ten in New York and not in the top 39 in Los Angeles markets. Despite this, Roseanne Barr and the show itself do not promote conservative views.
