Review of Dice Medias Operation MBBS Series: Season 2

As of today, the third episode of season 2 of the popular Operation MBBS series from Dice Medias is available to binge-watch on YouTube. While I have to put up with endless Cornetto ads and a plethora of Unacademy promotions, I'll share my views from a general audience's perspective.

Season 1

Season 1 of the series comprises five episodes, and to be honest, I didn't find it particularly interesting. The initial episodes focused on the freshmen's struggles to adjust to college life, particularly in finding a 'group.' Nishant faces initial challenges but eventually forms a friendship with Huma and Sakshi, a group that consists of both top ranks and those at the bottom.

The stories revolving around characters such as Aakash, who is intelligent but unsupportive by his father, seem quite typical. While attempts were made to present some dramatic scenes in a humorous manner, it largely fell flat. For instance, the scene where KC hits the professor with a tuning fork is not only out of character but also fails to be amusing.

Although the series introduced us to four major characters, it did not delve deeply into the interactions with other classmates or seniors, except for a few minor instances. It was only as I progressed through the series that my interest level increased.

Season 2

Season 2 is a more engaging and well-rounded narrative, with a significant improvement in the portrayal of the main characters. The struggles and challenges of Nishant, Huma, and Sakshi are now being depicted side by side, making the story more relatable and engaging.

Nishant, who wants to establish an image for himself, faces varying degrees of pressure. Huma, battling mild anxiety, pursues her love interest for a resident doctor, while Sakshi shoulders the responsibility of taking care of Kaka, the owner of the canteen. One hope I have is that the series keeps romance at bay.

The series introduces a case of medical negligence, a plot device that promises an intrigue-laden storyline. I eagerly await how the writers will handle this storyline in the upcoming episodes.

Perhaps the most commendable aspect of the series is its portrayal of academic pressure, particularly on toppers. The narrative delves into the never-ending pressure to maintain a high rank and how it can become an obsession. Huma's performance in her role perfectly captures the essence of this struggle.

Next, there are characters like Nishant, who are carefree and strive to establish a unique identity in college. Then we have the emotionally driven Sakshi, who is deeply invested in the well-being of others. KC, one of the senior characters, serves as a mentor and source of wisdom.

Moreover, the series tackles the perception of doctors and the occasional mistreatment they face from the public. It is commendable that the show has attempted to cover this aspect, providing a more nuanced portrayal of the medical field.

Conclusion

In summary, Operation MBBS has grown on me, and I strongly recommend it as a one-time watch. Some of the best dialogues from the series have resonated with me, such as 'Ranks don't decide what kind of person you are.' This scene was the highlight of the series so far, and I am eagerly awaiting the fourth episode.

Thank you for reading!
