Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness had too little of the multiverse, and Doctor Strange seemed like a background character. Scarlet Witch took center stage in an evil role, despite her redemption arc in WandaVision. Reed Richards was very unconvincing, and America Chavez, while better than her comics counterpart, still felt like a bit of a one-dimensional character. However, the performances by most of the actors were solid, and the Illuminati were cool to see on the big screen.

Thor: Love and Thunder is a departure from its predecessor with a lot of jokes, but not all of them land. Willem Dafoe’s performance was fantastic, and his killing of Marisa Tomei’s Aunt May was a significant aspect of the movie. The biggest downside is the mind-wiping spell at the end, which needed more explanation.

Shang-Chi was my favorite film from Phase 4. The film feels like the old Marvel coming back, with great humor, lots of heart, and fantastic cinematography. Simu Liu’s performance as Shang-Chi was awesome, and his chemistry with Tony Leung was spectacular. Tony Leung’s performance as Mandarin was great, and I felt bad for him, seeing where he was coming from.
