Additionally, courses from institutions such as SAE Institute or Gnomon can provide a structured learning path. However, the key is to be persistent and continuous.

The cornerstone of any animation career is a strong portfolio, often referred to as a demo reel. Start by obtaining a drawing tablet and begin practicing 2D principles of animation. An old friend of mine based in Alabama once told me how he kept bugging an animation studio for a job. He wanted to work as a shader artist/developer and was really very good at coding within the 3D animation/texture space. They called him and he went for the interview, which was a presentation in front of senior team members on new shading/rendering techniques. They listened to him and told him he was very good but still not up to the mark. He was shown the entire facility and then sent home. Air tickets all paid for by the studio. This was a few years ago and the studio was ILM Industrial Light and Magic. He hasn't got into the studio he dreamed of but he hasn't left his passion either. He said he will try again.
