Navigating University Life: Overcoming Challenges and Finding Joy
Navigating University Life: Overcoming Challenges and Finding Joy
I tell people that I made it through university with a jar of instant Folgers in one hand and a roll of Tums in the other. Yes, coffee can definitely wreak havoc on your stomach, especially on days of sleep deprivation. I was working full-time, going to school full-time, and raising a baby. That's a lot of coffee, and caffeine definitely helped me combat the physical and mental fatigue. However, I have a lot of fight in me, and I refused to give up. After all, anything that doesn't kill you outright makes you stronger, right?
The result? Not only was I strengthened, but I vowed to never have to work another weekend if I didn't want to. Today, I am studying at Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University (HNBGU) in Uttarakhand, where I am pursuing a Bachelor of Pharmacy. HNBGU is one of the best universities in the state for my research, given its proximity to several pharmaceutical industries, such as in Haridwar.
The Campus Experience
Contrary to the common perception of a cold and clinical university setting, many institutions strive to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere for their students. On a typical day, you might see various canopies and informational booths scattered around campus, promoting different services or offering little souvenirs to purchase. The campus is often bustling with students taking breaks between classes, chatting, and enjoying the vibrant community atmosphere.
My Personal Journey: From Hating School to Embracing University Life
My experience with high school and college was far from enjoyable. I despised everything about it—academic facilities, classes, paperwork, and the constant running around to find classrooms. The sheer number of people in one space during CPR classes and nursing classes annoyed me to no end. The campus felt overwhelming, and the teachers often seemed unhelpful.
As a result, I have a deep-seated aversion to all things 'school', especially college. When I walked away from my last American university, I did so with a sense of relief. American colleges, in my opinion, were not worth the investment of money, time, and energy. However, the experience at HNBGU has been vastly different. Here, I am surrounded by my best friends, and the time I spend on campus is more enjoyable than frustrating.
University life is a mix of academic rigor and social interaction. While it can be challenging, the support of friends and a strong sense of community can make all the difference. Whether it's the chance to explore new ideas, socialize with fellow students, or pursue your academic goals, the overall experience can be deeply rewarding.
