My Least Favorite Horror Movies and Why They're Terrifyingly Bad

Throughout my lifetime, I have watched an extensive collection of horror films, from major box office releases to obscure indie flicks. While occasional gem-like movies such as Thankskilling do exist, I often come across duds that leave me questioning my sanity. My least favorite horror movies tend to suffer from consistent themes of poor storytelling, low-budget production values, and disappointingly predictable plot twists. In this article, I will explore some of the horror films that are simply too awful to watch.

Crappy Clown Horror Movies

One of the genres that I tend to endure with fierce dedication (if you can call that tenure) is the clown horror subgenre. My introduction to this particular brand of terror occurred with films like Clown Motel, Clowntergeist, and Clown Doll. These movies, while featuring scarier clowns, are often permeated with nonsensical dialogue and overlook the unique plot twists that could have potentially elevated them into the realms of the entertaining. In fact, these films so often dodge any semblance of dread or suspense that it’s almost like watching reality TV set in a haunted house.

The Least Favorite of All

Despite the bravery it takes to sit through these clown-filled terrors, there is one movie that stands out from the crowd as the worst non-clown horror movie I have ever seen: Pilgrim. Released in 2019, it is a testament to what can go wrong when a film is shot under drug influence. This movie is a chaotic, miserable mess, lacking any of the fun or creativity found in other staggering completely wacky horror films. Any attempt at a unique plot twist or storyline utterly fails, replacing any potential intrigue with an unpleasant cocktail of confusion and boredom. It’s a prime example of a film where the idea is good on paper, but execution falls flat in the most spectacular way.

Other Duds that Deserve Mention

While moving away from the specific clown genre, there are still plenty of horror movies that consistently fail. Another example that stands out is a poorly received open house-themed film. This movie promises to deliver the creepy atmosphere of an unconventional house-warming event but ultimately fails to live up to expectations. The absence of any tension or genuine fright leaves the viewer feeling unfulfilled and frustrated with the script.

Conclusion

Horror films are a diverse genre that can range from thrilling to terrifying, but there are unfortunately quite a few that just fall flat. From clown nightmares to uninspired horrors, these films stand out as particularly disappointing. Whether it's because of their scripts, their execution, or just plain bad luck, some horror movies are simply too awful for their own good. Despite this, I continue to watch them with a smirk, oddly compelled by the sheer failing of the films.
