My All-Time Favorite MCU Character: Wanda Maximoff or Doctor Strange?
My All-Time Favorite MCU Character: Wanda Maximoff or Doctor Strange?
Imagine a world where human heroes save the universe, where magic and science intertwine to fight against cosmic threats. But which of these incredible characters strikes a chord with you the most? Let’s dive into the debate and explore my all-time favorite MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) heroes, Dr. Strange and Wanda Maximoff.
Doctor Strange: My Honorably Mentioned Favorite
While I can't single out one favorite due to the incredible lineup, my honorable mention goes to Captain America. His unwavering goodness and humility make him an cherished character in the MCU. However, I must turn my attention to Dr. Strange for my all-time favorite.
Back when Dr. Stephen Strange was just an arrogant and selfish surgeon, little did he know his life would take a complete 180. Losing everything—his hands, wealth, and love—compelled him to seek answers beyond the realm of physical medicine. Guided by the Ancient One, Dr. Strange embarked on a journey to the mystic arts. This journey transformed him not only as a person but as a hero.
One of the most significant moments in the MCU is when Dr. Strange obtained the Time Stone. He faced the ruler of the dark dimension, Dormammu, and stood his ground. While he largely fought Thanos’s army to prevent him from destroying the stones, it was Dr. Strange who ultimately made the ultimate sacrifice to save reality. This act, showcased in Avengers: Endgame, solidifies my admiration for the Doctor!
The Scarlet Witch: A Complex and Controversial Pick
My all-time favorite MCU character is The Scarlet Witch (Wanda Maximoff). Despite her controversial actions, I consider her a complex and fascinating character due to her tragic past and immense power.
Wanda was originally a small-time antagonist with a tragic history. Her character arc took a dramatic turn after The Walking Dead storyline where she was responsible for the massacre of Skrulls—a moment that heavily affected her psyche. However, by the time Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness came around, her character arc took a dark turn. The director, Sam Raimi, admitted he hadn’t watched WandaVision, but there’s no escaping the negative impact that movie had on Wanda's arc. Despite the challenges in the new movies, Wanda still has a special place in my heart due to her raw integrity and sacrifice.
Wanda, as she is, is a powerful Avenger. Her tragic story is compelling, and the complexity of her character resonates deeply. The Darkhold, the book of forbidden knowledge, has been blamed for many of her actions. Yet, even with all the flaws and mistakes, she remains a character I find intriguing and admirable.
I still believe there's a path for her redemption. Until then, she remains my all-time favorite, despite the dark turns her story has taken. Let’s hope future installments will explore her character in a more positive light.
Conclusion
Both Dr. Strange and Wanda Maximoff are incredible characters, each unique and irreplaceable in their own ways. Dr. Strange with his calm and collected demeanor, and Wanda with her tragic arc and raw power. These characters continue to defy expectations, making the MCU an ever-evolving universe.
