Movie Watching Patterns and Recent Films I've Enjoyed
As a passionate cinephile, I frequently indulge in the cinematic universe, whether it's through a wide variety of films or binge-watching series. Over the past month, from 26th December 2023 to 26th January 2024, I've managed to watch a few captivating films, which have made my leisure time even more fulfilling.
Recent Films I've Watched
I've watched a total of 10 films this month, a number that surprised me given my past year's inactivity. Here’s a brief overview of the films:
The Boy and the Heron (2023) - 3/5
It’s a film that has earned decent reviews, but my personal rating is somewhat average. The narrative focuses on a young boy and his journey with a unique companion.
101 Dalmatians (1961) - 3/5
A timeless classic, but this version doesn’t quite live up to my expectations. The story and performances, while familiar, aren't entirely impressive.
The Princess and the Frog (2009) - 3/5
Another animated film, this one stands out for its charming characters and intricate storyline. It still holds a place of special significance in my heart.
Personal Insights on Recent Viewing Experience
Aside from the above reviews, I have compiled a list of films that I’ve recently watched, which span genres and moods:

The Boys in the Boat (2023) - 26th December
A historical drama that truly captured the essence of rowing, this film was based on a true story. The first third of the movie was my favorite, delving into the Great Depression and class issues, providing a deeper understanding of the characters. However, as the story progressed, it became slightly more generic but still an immensely enjoyable feel-good film.
The Color Purple (2023) - 7th January
I approached this film with zero expectations, having never read the book or seen any of the related adaptations. To my surprise, it was an absolute gem. The story, performances, and the soundtrack were all top-notch, and I could not have been more impressed. The film was a transformative experience, blending thought-provoking themes with a powerful narrative.
Anyone But You (2023) - 10th January
This film, set on a plane, was a blend of R-rated comedy and romantic drama. The characters' misunderstandings and the plot's simplicity were a bit annoying, especially the destination wedding subplot. However, Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeny brought their characters to life with nuance and complexity, making the movie an entertaining watch.
Night Swim (2023) - 11th January
A ghost film, this movie was a surreal experience, filled with eerie and unsettling elements. The film's commitment to the concept of a haunted pool was commendable, making it a humorous and interesting piece of horror. The casting of the actor who played the villainous Captain America added an intriguing twist.
Mean Girls (2023) - 12th January
Adapting the Broadway musical, this film was a refreshing take on the original. While it wasn't the best musical I've seen this month, it was still entertaining. The sound mixing and performer's enunciation were occasional issues, but the overall experience was enjoyable and nostalgic.
These films have given me a lot of joy and entertainment, and I look forward to watching more in the future. Whether it's the historical drama, the deeply human story, or the supernatural thriller, I am always ready to dive into the world of cinema.
Conclusion
While the past few years have been a period of relative inactivity when it comes to movies, I'm excited to see I.S.S. and Aquaman. My passion for movies remains, and I hope to continue exploring the vast and ever-evolving cinematic universe.
