English Revision Test and an Unexpected Twist

Our school recently had an English revision test, much like any other day filled with exams. However, things took an unexpected turn when some of my friends used their dictionaries for an unforeseen purpose. They were searching for a word called "Dik," which I think was a playful mistake. Instead, they stumbled upon the word "Dicky," which means 'not strong, healthy, or working properly.'

We couldn't help but burst into laughter at the sheer absurdity of it. Little did I know our Hindi teacher, who overheard our giggles, would join us in this spontaneous telenovela.

The Moment Our Hindi Teacher Fell From the Sky

Walking around the library, my friends and I were engrossed in our dictionary adventure. Our Hindi teacher, Mr. Sir, approached and inquired, "Heyy Maharshay, aap log pariksha ke tayari karne ke alava kya kar rahelo? What are you doing instead of preparing for your tests?" I was utterly speechless, while my friends couldn't contain their laughter.

Me: Sir, we are preparing but just discussing the meaning of a word.

In a moment of innocence, I replied, "Sir, this word means something that is not working. Iska matlab hai ki yeh cheez ya vastu kaam nahi kar raha hain. Managed not to tell him the word."

Sir: Aap ko pata hai isko sahi raasta mein kaise laana. Do you know how to make it work?

Me: Nahi sir, mujhe nahi pata.

Mr. Sir: Ek danda lelo, maro fir pucho kam kare tho sahi nahi tho aur ek baar maaro fir pucho aise kaam karne thak usko maaro fir kyun kaam nahi karta hai vo. Take a stick, hit him if he works that’s okay or else hit him again. Repeat it till he works and why will he not work if you hit these many times?

At this point, I was trying to control my laughter, particularly as he was discussing the word "Dicky." My friends, on the other hand, were openly laughing. He continued to explain a method that seemed more like a joke than a serious suggestion.

Our school is a treasure trove of such irreverent stories. It's quite possible that I have used Hindi grammar that isn't perfectly accurate as I recall this experience several years later. Nonetheless, these moments stay etched in our memories, serving as a reminder of the unique blend of joy and adversity that school days bring.
