Killed a Sith lord who existed in the Old Republic era. Pinned Palpatine, who is equaled to Master Yoda, to the wall.

Another reason why Vader surpasses Kylo Ren is due to their unique origins. Vader was born by the power of the Force, while Ren was born the normal human way. Regardless of how much training Ren receives, Vader would still be considered more powerful due to his Force abilities from birth.
