Is Now the Best Time for the Washington Redskins to Start Dwayne Haskins?

No, Gruden was asked prior to the Giants’ game if Haskins was going to be starting. He answered that Haskins wasn't ready. After all, 'wasn't ready.' So, he magically became ready midway through the game on Sunday, my guess not being privy to the inner workings of the Redskins, is that Gruden is scared for his job and in desperate need put Haskins in there. And guess what – Haskins wasn't ready.

This weekend, the Redskins are playing the Patriots. Starting him in that game would be a spectacularly bad idea. The following week, they play the Dolphins in Miami. A terrible opponent on the road, might be the spot, if Haskins is ready.

My guess is that it is Dan Snyder or the GM, or Gruden, or all of them, but the Reskins seem to be a very poorly run organization. Here are some reasons why:

The Redskins' Problems Run Deep

The offensive line is trash. Mixing in with issues such as injuries and staffing changes, it makes a solid foundation for any starting quarterback extremely difficult. Adrian Peterson is well into his 40s, fragile after leaving college with damaged knees, and the team’s best offensive lineman is on the sidelines because they are trying to enact sweeping changes on the training staff.

Timing is Everything

Starting Dwayne Haskins now is like driving your new Lamborghini Aventador to work during rush hour and parking it on the street with an open briefcase full of money on the front seat. The risks are too high, and the team can't afford a quarterback who is not ready. The Patriots, with their veteran experience and strong defense, present a formidable challenge. Starting an unready quarterback would be a disaster.

When Should Haskins Start?

The only realistic scenario where starting Haskins makes sense is if he is truly ready for the challenge. This brings us to Miami and the Dolphins – a terrible opponent on the road. But even there, the best case scenario for Haskins is still slim. If the team is to have any hope of success, they need to nurture him until he reaches the level of preparedness that the game requires.

The Future of the Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins have a long way to go to rebuild their organization. From quarterback depth to offensive line stability, there are numerous critical areas that need immediate attention. The timing for any major changes must be carefully considered to avoid further setbacks. For Dwayne Haskins, the focus should be on gradual improvement rather than starting from day one in a high-pressure environment.

While Haskins has potential, placing him in a league that demands quick decision-making and physical toughness is a risky move. The Redskins should use the current situation to develop him while addressing other pressing issues, ensuring that he is fully ready before taking the field.

So, is now the best time for the Washington Redskins to start Dwayne Haskins? Absolutely not. It's a recipe for disaster, and a better plan is to continue the development process and wait until Haskins is truly ready for the challenge ahead.
