Is Cersei Dead? A Closer Look at the Evidence
The death of Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones has been a source of much debate among fans. One suggests she is dead given that her lifeless body was found crushed under rocks by Tyrion, while another argues there's a chance she could survive. Let’s dive deeper into the evidence to determine the fate of the “Mother of Dragons.”
The Collapse and the Evidence
According to the show’s narrative, Cersei’s body was found by Tyrion at the foot of a massive boulder. The assumption is that the boulder, or the ground itself, caved in and crushed her. This hypothesis is plausible, especially given the dramatic eruption of activity in the dungeon.
However, the strength required to survive under several tons of stone is exceptionally high. Adding to this, a key element of the survival scenario would be the presence of a functional escape route. Unfortunately, the entrance was caved in, making escape impossible without external help.
The Deceased Evidence
According to the official Game of Thrones Season 8 Episode 5 synopsis, Cersei indeed dies in the embrace of wounded Jaime as she is pregnant with the Kingslayer's child. The incident occurs when they are trying to escape from the dungeons of King’s Landing.
With the gates and outer passages blocked by rubble, the roof of the dungeons collapses, leading to the death of both Jaime and Cersei. Jaime, in his final moments, is still consoling Cersei, showing their unbreakable bond.
Post-Season 7 Speculations
While Lena Headey's name might still feature in the cast for Season 8, it does not entirely confirm her survival. The Season 7 trailer hints at potential danger for Cersei. The prophecy “Gold shall be their crowns and gold their shrouds” and “And when your tears have drowned you the valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you” suggests a dark destiny.
In the Valyrian language, valonqar means "little brother." Both Tyrion and Jaime fit this title, making them potential threats for Cersei. Moreover, the locations mentioned in the trailer, the area where Jaime stands (Fingers) and the area where Cersei stands (Neck), hint at danger due to their strategic placements.
Final Thoughts
The evidence strongly suggests that Cersei's end in Season 7 is a certainty. However, the ongoing debates and hints in the trailer keep the speculation alive. Stay tuned for what the creators have in store for the final season of Game of Thrones and the fate of the Lannister family.
