How Would You React If Your Child Was Going to Vote Democrat?
As a parent, the idea of your child voting for a political party opposite yours can be quite disconcerting. With two children who are now old enough to consider voting, my experience has brought up a series of challenging and reflective moments. I frequently ponder how I would react if one of them were to express their intention to vote for a Democrat.
Unexpected Polling
I realized that whether my children voted or not, my reaction would remain the same: a mixture of concern and perhaps a hint of disappointment. If they were to vote Democratic, it would be no different than expressing liberal viewpoints. I would say, 'if you are young and you are not a liberal, you have no heart. If you are old and you are not a conservative, you have no brain.' Admittedly, both of my children are still young, and it’s hard to predict their political leanings as they grow up.
International Perspective
However, the scenario took an interesting turn when I considered what I would say if my child told me they were going to vote for a Democrat, but lived in Europe and was not a US citizen. In that case, my response would primarily revolve around the fact that they couldn’t vote in a U.S. election. The discussion would revolve around their schooling, work, and their status as non-U.S. citizens.
Family Comes First
Even if I had supernatural helpers (imps) or a human orphan, the fact that they would be part of my family would outweigh any political disagreements. This is a valuable lesson in the importance of family bonds over political alignment, which is something every parent understands and harbors deep within their hearts.
In Defense of Republicanism
It’s essential to remember that voting Republican is not inherently wrong. However, the idea of voting for someone who embodies traits like being a sociopathic liar, thief, rapist, and traitor to the Constitution is foolish. Why would anyone think that a person who has been reported to have shitted in gold toilets, stolen money intended for children with cancer, lied about things they don't need to lie about, and dishonored their constitutional oath has any credibility? The last person who doesn't care about anything or anyone but themselves is a member of the Republican party.
Conclusion
The decision to vote for a particular political party is deeply personal and should be based on a thorough understanding of the candidate's character and policies. Family unity and love are incredibly important, but so is the recognition of values and principles. While there may be disagreements, the bond of being a parent should always come first.
