Fictional Characters You'd Hate to Meet in Real Life: Why?

Fictional characters have captured our imaginations for decades, but not all of them are pleasant to encounter in the real world. Characters like Sheldon Cooper or Dr. House are a nightmare to deal with, even if their antics are amusing on TV. Let's explore why harsh fictional characters would be awful to have in real life!

TheNefarious Sheldon Cooper

Let's start with the iconic figure from the hit show The Big Bang Theory: Sheldon Cooper. This character is rude, condescending, and always feels the need to tell others what to do, even if they didn't ask for his help. His frequent teasing of Penny, especially regarding her educational background, would make him extremely unpopular. The episode where Leonard paints “DIE SHELDON DIE!” on the wall is a testament to how universally despised Sheldon would be if he existed in the real world. His mere presence would likely warrant avoidable threats, and if he were to pass away, no one would care enough to investigate.

Dr. House: The Worst Doctor You Could Have

The title character of House, Dr. Gregory House, would be a disastrous doctor or colleague to have. While he is an incredibly brilliant doctor, his flaws make him a nightmare to work with. He's self-centered, indifferent to the well-being of his patients, and emotionally distant. The idea of a doctor with this attitude would be extremely distressing. His approach to work and life, characterized by his lack of empathy and his tendency to bend medical ethics for his own benefit, would make him an unbearable reality to deal with. Imagine having such a person on your team, or even in an elevator with you! It's not for the faint-hearted.

Terrible Roommates and Friends

Most of the characters that we love to read about are terrible to have around in real life. For example, take Sherlock Holmes, one of the most beloved and fictional characters of all time. Not only is he a terrible roommate, but he's also a horrible friend. He constantly berates his best friend, John Watson, performs mean tricks on him, and sometimes even puts him in dangerous situations. Adding to this, many of his counterparts in literature, such as Byronic heroes like Rochester, Heathcliff, or Dantès, are abusive and spineless. They are inspired by a dark, brooding archetype but often turn out to be abusers and manipulators.

The Exception: Steve Rogers and Garak

Don't get me wrong, most fictional characters are fun to read but terrible to have around. However, there are a few exceptions. Steve Rogers from The First Avenger, and Garak from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, would be great friends to have. Steve Rogers is an embodiment of compassion, down-to-earthness, and a kind-hearted dork, qualities that make him an ideal companion. Garak, a Ferengi character from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, has a knack for storytelling and would likely have countless fascinating and quirky tales to share, regardless of whether they turn out to be lies.

In conclusion, while fictional characters can entertain us, not all of them would make good companions in real life. The prickly Sheldon, the inconsistent Dr. House, or the abusive Byronic heroes could create havoc. However, characters like Steve Rogers and Garak demonstrate that even the most unlikely fictional characters can have real-life appeal.
