Favorite TV Shows I Missed Initially but Became Addicted To
Undoubtedly, there are countless high-quality series out there that can keep you engrossed night after night. Here are some shows I initially missed but found myself so addicted to once I started watching them.
The Nevers on HBO
When The Nevers first aired, I hesitated to give it a chance due to the cloud that followed Joss Whedon. However, once I started watching the first two episodes over the course of two days, I couldn't stop. I finally binged the final four episodes, waking up the next day around noon to conclude the series. The show's engaging narrative and compelling characters attracted me, and I also enjoyed diving into the official podcast to learn more.
The Handmaid's Tale
I initially avoided The Handmaid's Tale, predicting it would be too depressing. However, I was pleasantly surprised. Although the show does delve into some darker themes, the storytelling and performances are simply incredible. My initial reservations melted away as I discovered the story's depth and the brilliant acting, particularly from Elisabeth Moss. This show ended up being a massive hit, one I wished I had started watching sooner.
Schlitts Creek
Schlitts Creek was another show I initially dismissed as being stupid. I could not have been more wrong. This series is hilarious, ridiculous, and heartwarming all in one. It's a unique blend of satire and storytelling that beautifully captures small-town charm and the quirks of its inhabitants. The show's humor and warmth are undeniable, and I found myself hooked from the very first episode.
Blindspot
Before season 2, I was quite unsure about Blindspot. However, once I met Roman and became a fan, I couldn't tear myself away. The show's pacing and compelling plot started to win me over. As the series progressed, the introduction of Bradley Cooper, Victor Garber, and Ron Rifkin made me take notice. By season 2, the addition of David Anders as a main character sealed my love for the show. Now, I am fully addicted.
Game of Thrones
Although I generally am not into fantasy, Game of Thrones is an exception. The sheer number of mythical creatures and beings was daunting. However, when I decided to give it a try, I was pleasantly surprised. The show's attention to character development, complex plot twists, and the ability to capture human drama in the face of fantastical elements kept me hooked. Last year, when Foxtel cable TV aired Game of Thrones as a binge-watch marathon, it made the decision to finally start watching it come to fruition. It turned out not that bad at all!
Other Notable Binges
Thankfully, with today's streaming services, there are countless options available for on-demand viewing. Shows like Game of Thrones, Downton Abbey, House of Cards, Shameless, The White Queen, and The White Princess have all left lasting impressions. I even binge-watched the entirety of the second season of Stranger Things in a couple of days because it was just that good!
In conclusion, the surge in binge-watching has opened up a world of possibilities for discovering hidden gems. There's a bit of everything out there, and it's exciting to see which series will captivate you enough to become a lifelong fan. Thanks to the wide array of streaming platforms, there's no time like the present to discover something new and exciting to binge-watch.
