Favorite Actors and TV Stars of the Teenage Years: From The Olsen Twins to Supernatural’s Dean Winchester
Who was your favorite actress or actor when you were in your teens?
Memory of the Olsen Twins
When I was in my teens, the Olsen Twins were undoubtedly my favorite. They were about my age, and let's face it: they were extremely attractive. It was a phase where I dreamt of dating them, even went as far as writing them a fan letter, although I never heard back. Who knows, maybe someday I can say that I dated Elizabeth Olsen!
The Man-Crush of a Child of the 60’s: Gerry Anderson's UFO and Michael Billington
As a child of the 1960s, my favorite show in my teenage years was Gerry Anderson's UFO. Among the cast, I harbored an intense crush on Michael Billington, who played Colonel Paul Foster. Though I'm not gay, I had a Belgium yearning to be like Colonel Foster himself. Sadly, Michael Billington passed away in 2005, but his role as Colonel Foster in the show remains etched in my memory. It's amusing to think that he was the "Bond that never was," having made it further than most other actors in auditions for the role of James Bond. While up against other leading men, Michael Billington eventually received a small part in the film "The Spy Who Loved Me," where he portrayed a hapless Russian agent.
Supernatural and My Teen Years
During my childhood, I spent countless hours watching many movies and television series. One of my favorites was the supernatural-themed television show Supernatural. As a teenager, I didn't watch from the very beginning but started following its mid-numbered seasons. That’s where my crush on Jensen Ackles began. He played the character Dean Winchester, whose acting impressed me at the time. Now, as I look back, I think it was his unique facial features that caught my attention. Jensen Ackles became my favorite actor throughout my teenage years.
When I read an article about how Jensen Ackles was considered for the role of Captain America before the part went to Chris Evans, it brought back a mix of nostalgia and amazement. The thought of how dedicated and serious he would have been to play Captain America had he accepted the role is mind-blowing. Nonetheless, I remain thankful for the legacy he has left in the entertainment industry as Dean Winchester and for inspiring many during his career.
Conclusion: Rediscovering My Teenage Heroes
Each generation has its iconic figures who leave an indelible mark on our memories. The Olsen Twins, Michael Billington, and Jensen Ackles represent parts of my teenage years and the enduring appeal of their work. As I reflect on these memories, I find myself grateful for the lasting impact these actors had on my teenage years, shaping my interests in the characters and stories they delivered on screen.
