Introduction to Korean Dramas

Korean dramas, also known as K-dramas, have captured the hearts of audiences across the globe with their engaging storylines, beloved characters, and stunning visuals. For many viewers, K-dramas are not just entertainment; they are a window into Korean culture and a source of emotional connection. Let me share my personal journey through the world of K-dramas and introduce you to some of my favorites.

My Late Arrival to K-dramas

While I am considered somewhat 'late to the party,' my introduction to K-dramas began with the shows that sparked my interest and, ultimately, my love for these genres. My journey began with 'Coffee Prince,' a drama starring the talented Gong Yoo. This show, though it was released in 2011, only got to my radar two years later, in 2013. 'Coffee Prince' was a turning point for me, and it marked the beginning of my K-drama journey.

The Dawn of a K-drama Lover

While I've only recently become a K-drama enthusiast, the seeds of my interest were planted long ago. In the early 2000s, Korean dramas were just beginning to gain international recognition, with shows like 'Winter Sonata' becoming immensely popular. However, this period did not leave a lasting impression on me for various reasons, including my aversion to melodramas and too much crying scenes—classic Korean romance and drama might overwhelm some viewers.

Exploring Japanese Dramas with Takuya Kimura

During that era, Japanese dramas were also in the spotlight. I was a fan of Takuya Kimura, the breakout star of 'Full House,' which I recall watching with great enthusiasm. Rain, a Japanese actor, was extremely popular across Asia, particularly in South Korea, where his performances in 'Full House' were adored.

The Discovery of 'Dae Jang Geum'

One of the turning points in my K-drama journey was watching 'Dae Jang Geum,' a historical drama that aired in 2004. This 60-episode series not only introduced me to the world of Korean historical dramas but also won my heart with its captivating storyline and compelling characters. Since then, Korean history has fascinated me, leading to an appreciation for series like 'Winter Luna,' 'Beauty Inside,' and 'Reply 1994.'

Modern K-drama Favorites

Fast forward to 2014 to 2019, and the list of my favorite K-dramas includes several highly acclaimed shows. 'My Love from the Star,' 'Legend of the Blue Sea,' 'Doctor Stranger,' 'School 2013,' 'Uncontrollably Fond,' and 'Healer' were all part of my K-drama journey. Each of these shows provided a unique perspective on love, adventure, and personal growth. They also introduced me to a star-studded cast, including Kim Woo Bin, Lee Jong Suk, Lee Min Ho, Ji Chang Wook, Kim Soo Hyun, Park Hyung Sik, and Kim Jae Wook, all of whom I hold in high regard for their performances.

Recent Additions to My Collection

My current K-drama collection is diverse, ranging from the heartwarming to the electrifying. Some of my recent favorites include 'Hospital Playlist' (Season 1 2), 'Weighlifting Fairy Kim Bok Joo,' 'Itaewon Class,' and 'The World of the Married.' These shows have been not only entertaining but also emotionally fulfilling, often leaving me with a sense of nostalgia and admiration for the characters and stories they've portrayed.

Final Thoughts

As a lover of K-dramas, I am always on the lookout for the next great series. With a mix of historical narratives, modern romances, and thrilling mysteries, the world of K-dramas continues to captivate and inspire me. Whether I'm binging on a recommendation or diving into a new series, these shows remain a significant part of my media consumption. And just like the dramas that have featured Iksong Couple, my days of enjoying K-dramas are far from over. I’m eager to explore what the future holds for this exciting genre.
