Exploring My Love for Writing: A Journey from Books to the Big Screen
Exploring My Love for Writing: A Journey from Books to the Big Screen
My love for writing started at an early age, driven by an insatiable thirst for adventure and a deep yearning to plumb the depths of human emotions. Just like the characters in the books I couldn't seem to put down, I too felt a strong pull towards the world of words and stories. Since the fourth grade, my passion for writing novels filled with romance, adventure, and the power to make readers feel has been a guiding light in my life. My goals include writing a best-seller, creating a book series, seeing one of my books adapted into a movie or TV show, and becoming a scriptwriter or working with the likes of John Green, Bryan Konze, and Michael DiMartino.
A Hidden Talent Blossoms
Contrary to what many might assume, my journey to becoming a writer was far from easy. While I was always praised for my talents in music and the arts, my struggles with language and reading were often ignored. The very fields that should have been my strongest suits, I trod upon with trepidation. I remember dreading language and reading classes, even going so far as to fall asleep after just one chapter of Harry Potter. My weakest field, I thought, was my greatest weakness. However, a chance encounter during my sophomore year in high school changed everything.
Discovering the Power of Words
Everything started to shift when I was introduced to Norse mythology. It was like a door was being opened to a completely new world. I dove into novels and began reading classics. This literary journey was a revelation; it was a world away from my usual fare of reference materials and atlas books. The thrill of reading books about different cultures and mythologies was exhilarating.
The Writing Road Ahead
Although my admiration for music and the arts has never waned, the realization that language and writing could be my greatest tools for storytelling was a turning point. Encourages from my English teacher and class adviser were instrumental in boosting my confidence. Reading practices from literature classes and writing workshops, such as Creative Writing, Script Writing, Acting, Directing, Public Relations, and Journalism, played a crucial role in honing my skills.
From Reader to Writer
Viajero by F. Sionil Jose became my all-time favorite Filipino novel. The experience of reading and analyzing these books ignited my passion for literature. I then began writing about anything I could think of, sometimes even at a coffee shop after work. Language no longer felt like a hindrance but a playground for creativity.
Pursuing My Goals
My goal is to publish a book. The concept of publishing a novel, series, or even contribute to the entertainment industry as a scriptwriter fills me with excitement. The idea of working with industry giants like John Green, Bryan Konze, and Michael DiMartino is exhilarating. I yearn to see one of my books translated into a movie or TV show. The prospect of contributing to the entertainment industry is something I hope to explore in the coming years.
A Path Less Traveled
Despite my initial struggles with writing, I've come to understand that sometimes the biggest challenges lead to the greatest rewards. The road to becoming a writer wasn't easy, but it's been incredibly rewarding. As I continue to pursue my passion, I'm reminded that perseverance and a love of storytelling can lead to incredible achievements.
My journey from being a piano player and dancer to a writer has been a labor of love, filled with moments of inspiration and growth. Writing, I now understand, is not just a profession but a lifelong passion that has enriched my life in ways I never imagined.
