Embracing Excellence: A Guided Journey Inspired by Rancho from 3 Idiots

It's not always good trying to be totally like somebody else, but you can learn whatever is good in that person. That makes you a better person. Watch the movie, and take in all the goodness that you see in Rancho. Practice those good qualities again and again. Soon, you'll have those qualities.

Understanding the Journey

Before I answer, there's something I want you to consider. If you're asking this just for the sake of knowing and not for implementing, then stop reading. I'm assuming that you want to actually make a difference in your life to experience the feeling of having a free and unrestrained soul. Because either way, you're not going to forget this question or its answer. Either you'll remember this with a feeling of regret and the question, what if I actually had the courage to implement it, or you'll smile smugly.

There's a quote: "Do what you know until you know better. When you know better, do better." I don't exactly remember who said this, but it kind of answers your question.

Finding Your Passion

In the movie, when Farhan asks Rancho why he isn't able to excel in his studies, Rancho replies, "Because engineering is not your passion." In order to excel at something, you have to be passionate about it. When I say this, understand that there's a huge difference between getting to love your work and working at something you love.

To answer your question, if you wish to lead a life of excellence like the one Rancho speaks about, you'll have to find something you're intensely passionate about. Focus on that and keep training in it. While you're doing it, criticize yourself brutally. Find your weak points and keep improving yourself at those points.

Burning Your Bridges

There's a career opportunity in almost every hobby you may have. Find out what they are. Find and network with people who are experts in that area. Read more and more. Keep improving your work and build a portfolio. Know your limits and keep pushing them.

When you're doing this, make sure you have burned up all your bridges and safety nets. Make it the only option you have in front of you. This is the only way to ensure that you'll keep pushing your limits to the farthest extent.

Publishing With Fear

There's a saying among writers: "Never publish unless you're scared to do it." I think it's the same in any area. Keep improving yourself until you've reached such a state. By then, you'll have become the best at what you do.

While undergoing this process, you'll notice some things you've never noticed before.

Redefining Happiness

Happiness doesn't mean the same to you as it once did. You're aware not just of the value of happiness in your life but what it means to others as well. You're able to connect with others on a deeper level than before. Anger is a concept you no longer recognize. The people who really value your happiness and support you.

Challenges and Growth

Remember this is a process and it's painfully slow. It may not seem like much, but believe me, it's not easy, and the world won't be as kind as you want it to be. Chances are you'll be feeling loneliness like you've never felt before. Remember, before a seed becomes a sapling, it must be buried in the earth and has to fight its way out through layers of soil and mud and darkness before it sees the sun.

There will be days you feel totally alone and lost. Days where there's just work and no result. Where you'd want to scream aloud in frustration. But like every night, it will pass, and a day will follow. Don't give up; don't run away. Because all those struggles are worth it. You'll never forget the day you started, and years later, you'll look back at it and say, that was the day I made the best decision of my life, and it took my once-normal life and made it extraordinary.
