Her acting debut was a hit, making her instantly popular. After this, she made her Telugu film debut with Naa Ille Naa Swargam in 1991, where she played Rowdy Alludu. Notably, another Telugu film, Chitemma Mogudu, saw its release in 1992, and a subsequent film, Tholi Muddu, though released posthumously, solidified her status in the industry. Ramba completed the latter film since Divya couldn’t fulfill her role due to her untimely death.

In 1990, she also made her Tamil debut with Nila Pennai. This was a single film appearance in her early career. Her dreams of Bollywood stardom came into focus when she was initially slated to appear in Gunahon Ka Devta in 1988, but was replaced by Sangeeta Bijlani.
