Did InGen or Masrani Global Ever Return to Isla Sorna?

After the events of Jurassic Park III, many questions arise regarding the fate of Isla Sorna, the mysterious island featured in the Jurassic Park films and its extended universe. While the three main films do not depict a significant return to Isla Sorna, delving into the extended universe, including novels and video games, reveals intriguing details about past visits to the island.

Post-Jurassic Park III Activities on Isla Sorna

Shortly after InGen was acquired by Masrani Global in 1998, a small group of InGen employees conducted a clandestine operation on Isla Sorna. This event took place just 100 days after the acquisition, which is likely around late 1998 or early 1999. The employees’ mission involved breeding and genetic experimentation with new species of dinosaurs, including Ankylosaurus, Ceratosaurus, Corythosaurus, and Spinosaurus. These animals were bred and experimented with for approximately nine months, but the facilities and their residents were abandoned once the covert operation concluded. It remains uncertain whether Simon Masrani, the new owner, was aware of this illegal activity.

Further Incursions by InGen and Masrani Global

The clandestine operation on Isla Sorna was not the only visit by InGen or its successors. According to the Dinosaur Protection Group website and the prequel novel The Evolution of Claire, InGen scientists, including Dr. Wu, conducted research on the island following The Lost World and before Jurassic Park III. This research focused on the genomes of several dinosaurs, particularly the Spinosaurus, which led to the presence of these species on the island in the first place.

In the early 2000s, following the acquisition of InGen by Masrani Global, Vic Hoskins was hired to capture the Pteranodons that escaped at the end of Jurassic Park III. Hoskins was then tasked with retrieving the dinosaurs that had escaped, further highlighting the continued interest and activity on Isla Sorna during this period.

Poaching and Danger on Isla Sorna

In addition to the secret operations of InGen and its successors, threats from poachers persistently endangered the island. The dangers of poaching on Isla Sorna and Nublar are mentioned in the Dinosaur Protection Group website and in the The Evolution of Claire novel. Without specific records or accounts, it is difficult to estimate the number of poachers who ventured onto the island and the casualties that might have occurred.

These activities and the persistent threats they faced on Isla Sorna suggest that the island remains a key location in the Jurassic Park universe, even after the events of the main film series. From secret experiments to illegal poaching, Isla Sorna continues to be a center of intrigue and danger, making it a subject of ongoing interest for fans and researchers alike.
