Choosing Movies for a Rainy Monday Afternoon

On a rainy Monday afternoon, many of us may find ourselves at home with nothing better to do than scroll through streaming platforms or pull out a box set of our favorite movies. Personally, I#39;d probably watch something like The Office if it was airing on GOLD or any music documentaries from Sky Arts. Netflix has a fantastic documentary called Inventing David Geffen, which chronicles the history of the legendary record label boss. It#39;s not a surprise to me that Geffen had a pushy mother; her description in interviews sounds a lot like Beverley from The Goldbergs.

Current Lockdown Entertainment

Currently, in Sydney, all cinemas are closed. This has led me to watch I Met a Girl online, a film about a man named Devon Cassidy with schizophrenia, played by Brenton Thwaites from the television series Titans. The story is about his attempt to commit suicide and his subsequent salvation by a woman he falls in love with, whom he believes his brother doesn#39;t exist. The concept reminds me of the 1995 film Angel Baby, which won the 1995 Australian Film Institute award for Best Film. The genre of a schizophrenic romance might have been invented by this film. It is available on Tubi and several streaming services.

Evening Entertainment

In the evening, I might watch Ella Enchanted or The Phantom of the Opera, both of which are enchanting tales that I often see on television. However, I don’t turn on my TV until 8 PM any day, no matter what. But, for the sake of this scenario, let#39;s pretend I do. If it was a guilty pleasure on a rainy Monday, I#39;d likely opt for:

Moulin Rouge – Yes, I Know But I Like It

This film, while not strictly a guilty pleasure, is a guilty joy for me. Despite the often-lambasted rating, the musical sequences and the star-studded cast make it a worthwhile watch. Another option would be any of the classic Doris Day films, especially Calamity Jane. I own a boxed set and occasionally treat myself to one. The Harry Potter movies are another guilty pleasure, even though they are designed for kids. I enjoy them from time to time.

A Haunted Secret

There is one more movie I would add to this list, but I must warn you—it’s a secret! I love Frozen, the soundtrack is absolutely enchanting, and I enjoy watching the characters sing and dance. No one needs to know about my secret love for a movie designed for children.

Diverse Mood

Depending on your mood, many films can top your list. Some of my favorite options include:

King Kong Rear Window Inside Moves Forbidden Planet Groundhog Day

If you prefer music, you might enjoy:

The Last Waltz A Hard Day’s Night The Wall

Alternatively, you might want to watch some fantastic concert films. Music documentaries are also a great choice, as they offer a unique glimpse into the lives of musicians and the creation of their art. Whether it’s learning about the life of a legendary record label boss or experiencing a legendary performance, there’s something for everyone on a rainy Monday.
