Child of the 80’s: Reliving the Decade That Changed a Life

As a child of the 80s, I lived through a time marked by significant social and economic changes. This decade not only shaped my life but also influenced the way I approach challenges and opportunities in the modern world. My journey started at 24 when I earned my MBA and began my career, and accelerated in 1989 when I got married, all while navigating the booms of the stock market and building a life that reflected the spirit of that era.

Professional and Financial Milestones

My professional journey began in 1980 when I secured my first job right after college. Over the years, my life has taken several big steps:

1980: Obtained an MBA and started a job at the biggest company in my city. 1980: Purchased my first new car, a 1980 RX-7. 1981: Moved into a 3BR 2.5 bath townhouse. 1987: Began working in a bigger condo for 7 years until I got married.

Each move represented a significant milestone in my life, symbolizing both financial success and personal growth. These transitions were not only about acquiring property but also about taking on new responsibilities and entering adulthood.

Personal Connections and Relationships

The 80s were not just about professional achievements but also about meaningful personal connections:

1983: Met a series of women who were genuinely caring and kind. We would often go to a restaurant with a living room for private dinners, but I could only afford to do this occasionally. 1989: Got married and together we purchased our first home, a large 5BR with a pool, marking the beginning of our joint life.

Relationships during this era were characterized by a sense of stability and hopefulness. The memories of those intimate and meaningful gatherings continue to bring joy, reminding me of the simple pleasures that make life worthwhile.

Music and Culture

The 80s were a golden age of music, and the music scene was incredibly diverse and vibrant:

1980

Funkytown Another Brick in the Wall Rock with You Magic Cars Refugee Tusk Give Me the Night Up the Long Way Home Heartbreaker Off the Wall You May Be Right Dial H for Hero Pilot of the Airwaves Emotional Rescue On the Radio Against the Wind Upside Down Jesus Can Work it Out While You See a Chance While You See A Chance Winwood Steal Away Bad Girls Whip It Billie Jean Just the Two of Us

The music of the 80s was a soundtrack to our lives, reflecting our tastes and aspirations. Artists like Michael Jackson, Prince, and Heart were household names, and their songs continue to be staples in my collection today.

1981-1987

Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic Jessies Girl Betty Davis Eyes Tainted Love Mickey Edge of Seventeen Trouble Buckingham Lady Commodores The Break Up Song Greg Kihn Band The Voice Americas Greatest Hero Too Much Time on My Hands In the Air Tonight Workin’ for the Weekend Make a Move on Me Africa She blinded Me With Science lopside She Blinded Me With Science LP LP Centerfold Lets Get Physical Nice Girls You Should Hear How She Talks About You Puttin’ On the Ritz Hungry Like the Wolf Jenny I Can’t Go for That Rossana Chariot of Fire Roseanne Do You Really Want to Hurt Me Thriller I Ran

These songs captured the essence of the 80s, a decade of excitement and change. They remind me of the times I shared with friends, the parties, and the dancing that brought us together.

Legacy of the 80s

Reflecting on my life in the 80s, I am filled with nostalgia and gratitude. This decade not only shaped my professional life but also my personal relationships and tastes. The memories of those live performances, the joy of sharing music, and the sense of belonging are irreplaceable. Couples who lived through the 80s often share stories of the music, fashion, and the overall atmosphere that defined a generation.
