Can Exorcisms Permanently Remove Demonic Possession: Other Effective Methods

Though I do not adhere to most Catholic teachings or practices, I have researched exorcism and find it to be effective. However, no ritual or rite can permanently guarantee the demons won't return unless one becomes indwelt with the Holy Spirit of God and lives a righteous life. Demons thrive on sin and negativity. If the state of the possessed person does not change or reverts back to the pre-deliverance state, the demons will have grounds to re-enter that person.

Understanding the Nature of Demonic Presence

According to the Holy Bible, Matthew 12:43–45, when an impure spirit leaves a person, it seeks to return, finding the house 'unoccupied' and 'swept clean and put in order' if the person does not maintain a righteous and sanctified lifestyle. Upon returning, it brings seven more wicked spirits, making the final condition worse. This illustrates the importance of maintaining spiritual discipline and faithfulness to Christ.

Other Methods of Deliverance

Besides exorcism, there are other methods for dealing with demonic possession. A “deliverance” process can be undertaken with a qualified deliverance minister. These ministers are trained to identify and banish spirits from individuals. Another method involves self-deliverance, which involves working alone with Jesus, who is part of the triune Godhead within the Trinity. Through self-deliverance, a person can invite the Holy Spirit to cleanse and protect them.

Maintaining Spiritual Freedom

Once deliverance is achieved, spiritual maintenance is crucial to sustain this freedom. This involves ongoing faith, repentance, and a commitment to living a righteous life. Cleansing the 'garbage' that demons feed on and enlisting the help of Jesus Christ to expel these spirits are essential steps. Jesus Christ, with His authority, is the ultimate key to removing these beings from a person. As long as the person continues to follow Jesus' teachings and maintain a clean heart, they can retain their freedom.

Conclusion

Demonic possession is a life-altering event. Successfully overcoming it and regaining spiritual freedom signifies a significant transformation, indicating that the individual has cleaned up the 'garbage' and enlisted the help of Christ to expel these spirits. By adhering to Jesus Christ and His teachings, one can maintain this freedom and achieve true sanctification.
